Re: Is this guy pulling my leg?

UA guys in Alberta get about the same +/- a few bucks depending on the job.
Again, they supply all of their own tools... consumables and fuel are supplied (at least on the jobs I've been on).

Re: CWB T Class Test

Ok, you said one thing that changed my mind about thinking the test was going difficult.
You did the fitup with a knife edge.
I did end up trying some with a 2.5mm root opening and land... needless to say it's a pain in the arse.

I'm going to get rid of the land the next time I try.

Thanks!

CWB T Class Test

This question is for anyone that has done this test... or something equivalent from AWS code. Basically, a T class weld certification is defined as: a welder’s and welding operator’s ability to weld from one side without backing and achieve complete penetration in the root pass, e.g., hollow section...

Good Day, eh!

Hey everyone, My name is Shawn... I'm a UA Sprinklerfitter/welder out of Toronto ON. I've done a pile of lurking on the forum... and have tried to read everything on Jody's site. Currently I'm an assistant welding instructor in Toronto's oldest private welding school... I've probably learned more in...

Re: Stick Welding Questions ??

It all depends on what it is you're trying to weld and what electrodes you're using to do the welding. Is it an open root? Is there a backing plate?

The most common, to the real odd ball stuff, that gets overlooked during set up, before welding starts
Arc length too long, dirty material, bad technique

Re: Apprenticeship

Yes they do.
The boilermakers manufacture pressure vessels and the UA runs all of the pipe between them and around them.

As for the type of welding you might do, there will be some differences: the guts of a heat exchanger are a lot different than making a straight run of pipe.
