Re: Tig Welding Brass

Went to the welding supply. They put me in touch with an ace welder that is their customer service rep. He said I am not using enough amperage. Also that I should use a bigger tungsten. I am using a 3/16 and should use a 1/8th. The amperage should be up around 180 and negative DC. He also said prehe...

Their Chicken Fajitas with cheese are incredible. They ruined me for fajitas though. I won't order any fajitas from anywhere else now. The mexican sandwich is also a hit.

A lot of my Family is from the Windsor area. Chatham. Love going to Mexican town when we go down there. El Pocotel is the best Mexican food around IMHO.

That's too bad. Sorry to hear that. I will see about uploading the material for mine for you. It may be similar to mine in concept. Perhaps it will help you out in a pinch. If need be you could see if an electrician could help you navigate through the problems with it. Sorry it won't let me upload a...

google the company. I emails Forney and they sent me pdf's of the manuals. I haven't had time to look through them yet but I think that they have a full schematic of the electrical. Might be worth it if you can get hold of them.

Re: What do you like most about welding, What do hate most?

I really hate when someone else finishes your work buy sanding it down smooth and winds up burning through the sheet metal after you did a really nice job. I also hate when the guy bending up your parts can't be bothered to bend them right and the gap is too large to weld up properly. Making you wor...

Re: Stainless steel problem

Really wish the guy I am working with would stop grinding through the sheet metal on the corners after I do such a nice job welding them up now. Its a real pain to fill them in when the metal disappears under your torch. Most times I am able to fill them in but what a PITA.

Re: Tig Welding Brass

They don't have oxy acet or I would. I tried a copper backer I laid in a pretty yucky bead. They guy could only cut me 1/8th pieces though 1/16th would be better. I put the machine up to 105 amps and it went fairly ok but the joint wasn't filled entirely when I ground it down. I will have to try aga...

I would do it that way. Sheet steel used to be only joined with brazing rod in body work why not to brass or copper? Now it is done with a mig welder.

I will check that out. I wasn't sure 100% about that. Thanks for the info though. What about the colour of the welds? Is that a concern? I thought they should look cleaner than they do. What would cause that grey look?

Here is the weld I have done. Out side corner stainless steel. Notice that the weld is grey looking and that there is a dark brown or black substance on each side. I turned up the balance on the welder to about half way. It seamed to go better. I tried to turn it down 5 amps and I kept loosing the w...

Ok I will look into that stuff. I will get some pics of them before the grinding takes place. No problem there. Purging isn't possible to do but I think that the paste will help out. I run my tank at 25 so I think that should be lots of argon for what I am doing.

Ok I have viewed a few of them. I will check out some more. Also the gel do you just smear some on the back? I think that is what is going on. Its 16 gauge metal and I am welding it at 49 amps. I would throw it up a little more but I am hesitant to raise it up much more. Perhaps by 5 would maybe hel...
