Welding Rod Storage. Water is your enemy
SO how to keep your welding rods dry with out having to have an oven. I took my rods and put them in a plastic tube. You can make one out of ABS pipe or cpvc. Glue one end and use a screw cap on the other or a plastic slip on cap. Inside put 2 or 3 of those packets you throw away. Desiccant packs. T...

Why the blazes would you go so long knowing you need glasses and not get them properly for what you need? I never understood this mentality to ignore an urgent problem. Go get glasses guys and stop messing around with your eye sight.

I have to buy a whole new gun for it. The gun is pooched. They tore it apart and screwed up the part that the tip screws into. Also the piece that the shield screws onto is buggered up too. So the guys at Linde sourced a new one for me. Its going to run me about $130 for the gun. Then I want a tank ...

That's a good point Kerm. My buddy has a guy that he was worked with as an outside contractor at his work. But the City is squirming their way out of the process. The welder wants us to get an engineered drawing to cover his rear end and ours. Which the stupid city should have asked for from the beg...

I found this supplier here in Waterloo that will sell a 3' bottle of CO2 with no lease on the bottles. Was the cheapest I found around here. Look for a Linde dealer in your area. There we cheaper than Praxair who wants to lease you the tanks. Linde will just do a straight swap. http://www.lindecanad...

Re: Back Purge
I used a spring clamp and a a chunk of copper wool to tig some stainless steel. I actually used even a small chunk of 1/2" copper water pipe one time. It worked well. Of course spring clamps are a welders best friend too.

Re: Back Purge
Why not just back the weld up with a piece of copper or something? The copper traps the gas behind the weld that way purging the whole thing isn't needed. It works good for stainless steel.

There is another thread in the library tips area. If anyone else has ideas for removing broken studs. That way the info won't get lost. Also it will give alternatives to mig or tig. Many will not have a tig welder.

Re: Stud Removal
Th eidea with the tig is you can use a very small rod and build heat up in the stud and cause it to expand. Its impossible to get the same head to build up like that with mig welding. The tig allows you to concentrate it. Then once you have a big enough lump of weld on the top you can clamp onto it....

I will be looking around for some Forney wire thanks for the compare guys. Much appreciated. I also got some 7018 forney rods at a local Habitat restore and picked them up I think for $10 for a 2 pound bag sealed. They ran great. SMoother than the licolne rods. Re: welding helmet, what do you use?
The Miller Elite will charge the batteries while your welding. If its flickering you will want to reset the ambient light levels. In effect reset the whole helmet. There is no reason the batteries shouldn't last a quite a while like over a year. If you are getting short flashes its the sensitivity n...
