Re: advice in need
Thank you all for your valuable suggestions and comments , i must agree that contamination of the basic metal is the worst thing of all . I conclude that repairs like this should be done once and very well. The welder that weld it in the first place did not weld correctly so it end it up an almost h...

Dear mat ,in general welding starts from middle so it leaves room to expand ,cool and continue , force draft or spray water for faster.|You can make this spiral on a strong lathe or in pieces and strong heat to reform it

Re: tig spot welding
Drooping machine is a constant current machine like tig , something very useful, so it can be used but it is a risk to burn it. If it was cheaper i would have tried.{Drooping Type (Constant Current): Drooping V-I characteristics is used on constant current type welding machine. When arc is struck in...

the procedure you describe is something different , if you know resistance welding two electrodes by force in sheet metal , spot welding in tig is similar no pressure but in constant touch then press the button and it melts the two pieces together like resistance welding the timer switches of the cu...

Re: tig spot welding
thank you , there is a difference in spot and tack welding im not sure about it . Spot welding is like using the electrodes in touch with thin sheet metal and press the button of tig , spot timer stops current . It takes some practice. Tack is longer and manual. The question is if an expensive tig m...

Re: DC Tig aluminum
You might like this , I had for many years a DC tig only machine and the only way to use it was the use of aluminum electrodes of a usual stick welder . With pure argon I establish a DC tig arc with argon flow and when base metal melted I added the electrode , the paste melts and broke the surface o...

Re: 1% vs 1.5% vs 2% Lanthanated??
This is the gear box of a jeep , I used 3.2 lanthanated and the notes are like this , the tungsten does not ball when AC cleaning
is low and it splits at the tip. When cleaning is adequate then it balls. any ideas? The amperage was 170 A .

Re: the fine art of tig welding
It is 5052 its hard for this job previously i used softer usual aluminium that bent under stress Silicon that it is in 4043 end 4047 makes it better when it shrinks.Maybe there will be an application for the 5356 i don't know yet .Maybe in thick blocks like cylinder heads might be suitable. For what ...

Re: the fine art of tig welding
Thank you , I tried everything possible but in vain 5356 seems not flexible when it cools.Same settings when
i used 4043 or 4047 everything is fine . The only nice bit i noticed is that in the edges it is more easy to stay seems less flowing.I wonder what will be like in thick pieces.
