Re: bet you never thought of this????

If you come across a bucket load of old out in the air flux cored wire, buy it, if its cheap... Most times it will make a bunch of porosity filled beads, so you can hook up a bottle of c25 @ 10-16 cfh... That fill fix your porosity problems and make a nice looking bead.... Re: when to use DC-

AK, Yup that's the one! :D Pipe fitter makes some of his 6013's look like my tig welding! Anyway, he or anybody else would be fired here in the states if he was caught using 6013 on pressured pipe. The welds look nice, but it would NEVER EVER hold up to a 5P root plus 7018 cap  There's a re...

Re: Wire wheel bench grinder cleaning

Additionally, the brake-cleaner caution does not apply here... The wheel will dry almost immediately with no residue, and as long as you use "non-clorinated" brake cleaner, there is no hazard at all... I use it all the time. You can't make Phosgene without chlorine. BINGO! We have a winne...

Re: when to use DC-

I really shouldnt give advices here, becouse stick welding in here is so much different then it is in states.. Svetsare, not trying to start a war here or anything, honest. However, physics including electrical theory is the same here as it is on the other side of the pond. GTS (Google That Stuff) ...

Re: when to use DC-

I have used dc- on pipe roots, when welding 7018 on so big cap that you cant normally weld it. If I normally i can weld 2,5mm-3mm cap with dcep,(depending how thick material I am welding of course) then when I change to dc- I can weld something like 4-5 mm cap. There is a huge difference. You can w...

Re: everybody needs to see this!!!!!

Your biggest advantage is true portability. No electrical power requirements. Example: A farmer needs to work on a piece of equipment stuck out in the middle of a field, or a 4X4 truck is stuck way back in the bush and needs some serious repairs in order to get out. I would still recommend the trad...

Re: when to use DC-

The only time DC- works best is when it's used with 6013 on thin sheet metal. Before mig welding was the norm for sheet metal, 6013 was designed specifically to run on DC-

I just found two 50' rolls of brand NIB Hobart #2 gauge welding wire on Craigslist, for $75. total. Deals can be found, you just have to look for them. I also saw a brand new 100' lead of #2 and #1 for $75 each, but I didn't buy them because I didn't need them. Maybe I should buy them and sell them ...

sorry I haven't been back online to let you guys know how it went, I've been super busy. getting ready for an open root 3G test. I took the 1/8 6011's back and picked up a box of 3/32 6013's, which work amazingly well. where I'm from, we don't measure thickness as a "gauge", it's all inch...

Re: what mig wire should I use

In applications where the metal is shiny and clean, the s4 and s2 are a good choice, because the need for cleaning or "scavenging " of the weld pool isnt as high. In my experience , the s4 wire runs smoother than S6. Mick +1 what Mick said on technical terms. But..... For the average &quo...

Re: Cooking on a welded surface

I know this is about a month old now, but you hopefully cut a grove into that crack. Many people get all hung up about welding a cast iron skillet, about pre/post heat etc... What they neglect is the more important factor of weld "prep" instead. Also, many don't realize that cast iron can ...

Re: Lincoln 256 or miller 252 ?

I'd go with the Lincoln. Currently, I own a Lincoln Power Mig 216. I LOVE it!!! It suits my needs with the stepped voltage settings. I also own a Miller 211 which I too "LOVE." The Lincoln cranks out more amps (which I never need) and a higher duty cycle (which doesn't concern me neither)....

Both Radnor and Prostar are crap-phuck producers of wire and SMAW rod!! You get what you pay for. I put Radnor and Prostar under a close second place behind Horrible Fright consumables. Pure chit wire!!! If you want chit welds, buy chit wire from AirGas (Radnor) and Praxair (Prostar). Stick with Lin...

Go with a Hypertherm 30 or Miller 375 X-treme. Those two are the best!!! If you want to save a few bucks and get great cuts, choose the Forney plasma cutter over Horrible Fright, Neverlast or any other Chinese junk cutters out there.

I have a Harris torch and just put a new tip on the cutting torch. That's what I do my heating with - been about 15 years. They were cheap so I got a small one and a larger one. I've cut up to four inches thick with it and have no desire to go back to acetylene for cutting/heating needs. There are ...

I have both. I have a Ridgid (Home Depot house brand) that I bought, because they have the best "heavy duty" cast iron base platform that I've found. I looked at dewalt's and Milwaukee's chop (abrasive) saws and thought the Ridgid was the sturdiest of them all. Then I bought a "cold s...

I've never found the PC's with built in compressors to be "big" enough for anything but "lawn art" projects that the wife might make. To me, they're like buying a Nissan Sentra and trying to justify their use as a practical off-road vehicle in Moab, Utah.

Andrew, welcome to the forums. For what you want to do, I would suggest any 110v mig welder from the big-3 (Lincoln, Miller & Hobart). Always avoid Harbot Fright welders. If you have a 220v outlet in your garage, I would highly recommend the Lincoln 180C model. It's just what the Dr. ordered, bu...

Mark, The smallest electrode out there is the 1/16". If your set strong on 1/16" electrodes, I too second the 6013's. Both Forney and Lincoln make those. In fact, yesterday I saw Lincoln 1/16" 6013's both at Home Depot and Lowes. They come in a really small package, unlike standard el...
