Re: Rod Difference

The difference may not be huge. But those of us who weld quite often or for a living with stick... It is hard to describe in words. For 7018 there is none better than lincoln excalibur. For 6010 lincolns fleetweld series is tops again. Once you move to a more general purpose rod like 7014 or 6013 i...

Re: 7018 AC

7018 AC will work awesome on your 225, buy a 50 lb box of it, and grab some 7024 and 6011. burn like mad ;) Have fun. good luck John :) I wish I could find 7024's in 10lb containers. I've only seen it in 50lb tins at my LWS. I prefer to buy small batches when needed. 7024 is like trying to find a l...

Re: DC only capability on a stick welder

It's quite possible that amperages may be brand specific. Check out the INWELD brand of 1/4" 7024 that runs between 280-380 amps. http://www.inweldcorporation.com/products/product3.aspx?id=7024&method=3&useMethod=1 What's funny is that Inweld's doesn't even have a catalog number for an...

Re: DC only capability on a stick welder

First, we're talking about a 39% difference in cross-section area between 5/32 and 8/32, er 1/4... Actually, I'm just going to leave it there for now. This isn't the first thing you said "couldn't be done" that's been done. Steve S I concur Steve. Stop here while you're still above the su...

Re: DC only capability on a stick welder

Call out all you like. It's been done. Reference AKweldshop's test of 5/32 at 175 DCEN. Steve S That's great fellas, but we are not talking about 5/32". You do realize that 1/4" is three sizes BIGGER than 5/32", right???? If I wanted to see 5/32" 7024 welded, I'd go out to my sh...

Re: DC only capability on a stick welder

One thing I didn't see anyone here mentioning is the fact that when welding in a corner and especially uphill, one will experience "arc blow" when using DC. It's where the arc is hard to control due to magnetism forcing the puddle to be pushed out and away from between the arc and base me...

Re: DC only capability on a stick welder

I believe you about the sub arc ;) 7024 is my go too rod if I'm welding 1g or 1f welds, its really smooth and fast and saves me a bunch of time. TYhe main thing is the really concave welds, which I really like. what puzzles me, Otto, is why your running a 1/4 jet rod @ 270a :? , cause I run a 5/32 ...

I love the 375 Xtreme. It cuts and cuts and cuts. I use both the miller inline air filter attachment and a Home Depot model air/water separater, for nice clean dry air.

Re: cast steam elbow repair

Hey jw, thanks for taking the time to answering my questions, yeah, I was just curious about the cast welding. I've only used Ni-55 rod because I was always taught that it's easier to machine and or grind down, versus Ni-99. I rarely do any weld jobs on cast iron. I do know however that next time I ...

This post is over a month old but I thought I'd reply. If you want to hire me for $15.00 an hour, I'll give you my $15.00/hr quality welds. Otherwise, I charge $28.00/hr for my best quality welds. So which welds you want me to give you for your home???

I know this is an older post, but I'm browsing right now and found this. What kind of stupid @$$ jail administrator decided to get rid of the exam and return to old school expanded metal? I'd love to place that administrator (turd) in front of the cell door of the first inmate to take advantage of h...

Re: cast steam elbow repair

Nice repair job jw.... Just a few questions for you please. 1). Would the Ni-55 rod have been better for you, vs the Ni-99 rod? I'm thinking about after the weld, being easier to grind it down flat against the rest of the surface of that cast part. I'm just curious if your employer provides you with...

Re: What are you doing for air filtration in your garage?

I don't do anything because in the winter time, I'm living in Southern California. In all seriousness, it does get chilly in the mornings when I start metal fabing. So, I'll open the roll-up door about two feet, then open up a side door. I run a kerosene torpedo type heater and weld "...

Coleman initially denied making it, until I sent them a photograph and model number, then I was told that these were not legal to use anymore because of people using them in enclosed spaces and getting sick. I guess that all of the additives in ...

John, just don't weld with the door closed. For your lower room, keep a window open just a crack, even if it's cold outside. When you're done welding, close the windows. Peace of mind.

I have a 375 x-treme and its fabulous. I have the hard case too. I've never ever had my cutting tip "stick" to the metal as you described and I don't even have the "drag tip." I'll agree that Hypertherm (HT) is fantastic, because I've used the larger powermax 45 at work. But to s...

Re: Whip and pause with 6013s?

Don't weave and pause with 6013. You will create "worm holes" which are just slag inclusions in the welds. 6013 is great for thin metal like 3/16" and thinner. However, for 1/8" or thinner, one should use DCEN and not DCEP. DCEP penetrates deeper than DCEN. AC fits right between ...
