Becareful with brass it has since and out gasses, would not recommend it for backer over a gap. I have used it before and had that happen.

Re: Standard collet bodies - why?
In air cooled torches there is, because everything is bigger it help dissipate heat faster and will usually hold up better. In a big water cooled no they are huge and get in the way LOL.

Re: TIG Aluminum New Years Resolution
Is it a green film on top of the weld? As far as the arc wander, sharpen your tungsten to a sharp tip and put a small flat spot on the tip, also running a higher AC balance, turning up the frequency and running higher amps will help with that. The shiny verse dull welds can be caused by a variety of...

Re: Standard collet bodies - why?
There situations were space is a issue and you can't just pull your tungsten out to get at it, that's why they make like a long neck number 3 or 4 cup for the standard collets.

LOL it surprising how strong that stuff is LOL. We would mess around by putting aluminium slugs in the container we kept the toilet bowl cleaner, it would only take a hour to dissolve the slugs.

Hey that really cool Steve I have never heard of using nitrogen as a back up purge. Does it leave a silver backside or just prevent sugaring?

Re: Can't get penetration
Ya it probly wouldn't matter I just know it's because toilet bowl cleaning has a light acid in it. We used to use it to clean the aluminum for the punch and dies on the torrets at my first shop and I have used it to check for penetration. But like you said I am sure anything with light acid would wo...

Re: Can't get penetration
Its actually not draino its toilet bowl cleaner and its works pretty good as long as you buff the cut really smooth. It definitely takes some getting used switching from a small style flex head to a massive torch. I hate the massive air cooled torches but sometimes you got to use what is available. ...

I guess I have got a little from some the grinders I have welded for. Almost every fringe that would fringe my stuff would say I am the best at that particular shop. And respect istnt that important to me cause I know my work is good but at the same time it is still frustrating when a engineer bring...

Well hopefully I don't have to wait six more years. I just don't get why people don't just look at the quality of work as opposed to age of the person doing it.

That seniority club is tough to handle sometimes. That's ultimately why I quit my last job. I was hired there to be the lead Guy do all the prototyping and short run production and figure out and write procedures for the big production parts. After being there four years I didn't get a raise and I w...

That's what sucks. Kids that just come out of school, give younger guys like me kinda a bad reputation. I am only 24 but have been welding as a job since I was 16. I may be young but I don't consider myself green and I don't think I know everything. I just want to be the best I can.

Ya most people call me arrogant about my skills, I try not come off arrogant, I am just confident that I can do as good as job as anybody. Unfortunately green bay is out the question for me almost a 6 hour drive. I like some of the features that the dynasty has for anadized. It has a new waveshape called triangle that help punch through the anadizing without leaving the frosty cleaning band around the weld. I usually par that feature with manually pulsing the foot pedal and it works for me.

Its rough up here. To be honest there is a lot of jobs but nothing worth while.and its sucks because a lot of the welders or so called welders have no prie in work ethic or quality, so getting paid the same as them or less is hard to take.
