Re: Ready to Buy - Which Tig Would You Recommend?

On outside corners and butts I am better with my sycrowave, I still like my dynasty a little better for t joints on really thin aluminum, anadized and magnesium. Although I have never tried to weld magnesium on the syncrowave. DC they both are the same to me, although my dynasty has been kinda arc s...

Re: Parts Reproduction.

Aluminum welders are not in very high demand up in Minnesota. Most of the stuff I have been seeing is all stainless production work, kinda like I am doing now. My old shop and few others are the only ones in the area that work with aluminum and they don't pay very well. There is a couple aluminum fo...

Re: Parts Reproduction.

Another nice piece of craftsmanship from you Jeff. You make me want to get back into welding aluminum at my old job doing prototyping. Recently switch to welding stainless, nickel and titanium pipe production and its boring LOL.

Re: Bit of tricky cast

Jeff you do some really cool work. I have a similiar project coming on. I have to repair both both of the skags on my moms boat and the props, but I believe the props are past repair. Do you know if they make replacement snags or do you just make custom pieces?

Re: Can't get penetration

I completely agree that grinding your own welds makes you a better welder, I did that for a few years at my first job, I liked because it gave me time to study my welds and come up with with ideas on how to improve myself. I was in your exact shoes at my first shop, even after I became the lead weld...

That's true about more experience not necessarily being better cause I have seen that a bunch as well, just had really bad luck with kids straight out of school as well.

Re: Can't get penetration

If they don't have material by next week I would demand my money back. You are there to practice under a trained person who can help you learn to weld. And from the sounds of it your instructor is worthless. If you can't get your money back I would definitely go to some local shops, I am sure they w...

Re: Best Nozzle for Close Angle Merged Exhaust Tubing?

That torch would be a option. Have you tried a standard number 4 or a long neck number 3 or 4. You could probly get that to work and since its such a tight area still shoulg get good sheilding. If it firs but not good enough shielding you could make a argon out of tin foil to trap some argon.

You guys should check out his thin aluminum welding one its really funny. He is attempting to weld 0.030 aluminum on a chill fixture" I welded about a 1 inch and got out of position so I stopped to really position ". He doesn't finish to the weld, shoe arc shots or show the little stitch h...

Re: Ready to Buy - Which Tig Would You Recommend?

I am of the opinion that you should try and find a used name brand welder as well. That is what I did for my home shop. I bought my syncrowave 250 for 300 bucks from my old work, came with water cooler and 25 foot flex head and bought my dynasty 300 for 800 bucks from my old shop. Will soon be getti...

Ya I saw that one, he does that a lot from what I can see. Ya I am I found Jody's site first. Mr tig reminds me kindaof a old saying a old timer told me " those can do the job do the job those can't teach". That why I like Jody's videos they are usually actual jobs not just test joints.

other welding sites

So I was really bored and starting searching YouTube for other welding videos besides Jody's cause I have seen all of them many times and came across this Guy that calls himself Mr tig. Wow I am so glad we have Jody to make videos. That Guy seems very arrogant to call himself Mr tig. Anyone else wat...

Re: Wrinkled surface of weld, carbon steel

Contamination in personal tanks is a big problem that occurs. All the shops I have worked at have used massive tanks outside that have meters on them that measure the quality of gas. When welding at home I will usually just bleed out the last eighth or so of a tank. You really notice it on aluminium...

Re: Can't get penetration

Tubing is more difficult than flat plate. A trick I have used to teach some my buddies how to weld tube is to find the biggest piece of tube I can. The reason tube is had is cause you are constantly adjusting your angle. So with a bigger piece of tube you will have more time to make your adjustments...
