Re: what brand gas lens do you guy use?
I can't stand mister tig but he does give some decent info. My favorite videos of his is tge ones where he went to the welding school and had the instructor demonstrate pipe welds. I actually learned how to weld pipe from that video.

Re: Tig Welding aluminum thin sheet metal 26 gauge
O and not how long of a weld you are trying to f2f o but unless you have a awesome I wouldn't weld much more than lije 3 or 4 inches, just to help with distortion and heat satyration and back step your weld if it is a long weld.

Re: Tig Welding aluminum thin sheet metal 26 gauge
If you try the dc ep I would guess a 1/16 will work best but mayb 3/32 depending how fast you weld. The gas just help with arc stability at lo ower amps so it can allow yoy to weld at slightly lower and be in more control. Ma yb try a new defuser, it miggt be slightly plugged and at low gas everythi...

You could also try welding it on dc ep instead of ac.

Re: Tig Welding aluminum thin sheet metal 26 gauge
One thing that may help to to turn yout gas down. When your running low amps like that you don't want as much gas flow. When I do .030 aluminum at work, usually outside corner joints and butt welds, I run about 10 cfh number 4 defuser set up.

what brand gas lens do you guy use?
Hey guys just wondering what brand gas lens you guy like and which you think is best. My work used to get ck but now gaets esab and I have noticed huge difference in the shielding. The ck ones seem to be much better.

The only I don't really care fot is the miller water coolers. I have had some issues with thr filters plugging up with this white sludge. If I was going going to set up a shop I would builf my own cooling system and have it plumbed throughout the shop. I work at place that did this and did a lot of ...

Dynasty350 with awater cooler. Its expensive but well worth it for the reliability. At my work we do about 90 percent aluminum anything from .030 all the way up to 1 inch. All the machones run 24 hours a day usually 6 days a week. We do have a 700 I use for the 1 inch jobs but the 350 handle everyth...

Yep I havev tried every wave shape, cup, tungstens, gas flow. Actually last night I had the dirtest parts ever I tried everything and nothing worked, I just gave up and welded them. Back before they stopped caring about the cleaning I used use advanced square 80 balance 200 freq and 15 cfh on the fi...

Re: sometimes old school is better on aluminum
Thanks jeff. I think I have a valid argument now to do at least something for cleaning them and now the supervisor witnessed it. We had to get 50 of them ground tonight, well out of the 50 I reworked 23 for porosity and cracking welds plus I still had to wrld my normal 10 to get 50. Glad I figured o...

Re: sometimes old school is better on aluminum
I would be worried about clor part of that 1.1.1 stuff. If that means chlorine that is bad news for welding, just like ysing chlorinated break cleaner to clean parts, the fumes that come off can kill you.

Old school is fun. I hadn't done that in years but it worked so good yesterdsy I did it agaon today. I might just make this my normal method. Norhing beats old school for outside corner joints, that nice soft arc make such nice beads

Re: sometimes old school is better on aluminum
I kind of get the thinking because we make about 500 cabinets a between all the different styles so it would probly be a big expense. I was try to get them to buy some acetone and have the turret operators wipe them down after they got done punching them but they said the turret guys don't have time...

I agree and I have been trying to get them to clean it cause I am sick of fixing poristy and welds cracking from other people that don't care what their welds look lije. 20131205_014713.jpg 20131205_013309.jpg So at work today I had to weld some of the aluminum cabinets I posred pics of in the past. Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Very easy little aluminum chasis on friday. .062 5052 al the only thing that is critical us all the welds must be fully penetrated because they get ground, used 1/16 5356 filler for color matching and strength. Have 700 to do welld about 200 per day so should be done on wednesday.
