See if they have a junk torch you could bring home a practice with your left hand, that how I got comfortable. And do dry runs vefore you light up to help you get used to all the body repostioning that goes on in a 6g position.

Re: Marcella Manifolds "The Bead Master"
Ha nice I have a 700 to at work as well as 4 350s. The machines are awesome I really like being able to change the ac waveshape. I honestly never usually go over 200 on the frequency, I have only used 400 a handful of times. I would like know what tungsten he runs. I use 2 percent thoriated in all n...

Re: Blistering on back of steel welds
Speed is key on thin stuff. At the sheet metal shop I work at we mostly do aluminum but if we do do steel its 18 ga or thinner and most if it has no bleed through call outs. The faster you can weld the better. I like to use 035 filler or even smaller for like 24 gauge. I think the smaller rods help ...

Re: Aluminum What causes this?
4043 or ant other 4000 series won't anodize color match to any 5000 or 6000 series aluminums. Usually 5000 series fillers with color match pretty well with 5000 and 6000 series aluminum. 5356 is a good choice for color matching and its the cheapest of the 5000 series fillers. Some 5000 are hard to f...

Re: Marcella Manifolds "The Bead Master"
If you notice his technique he dips twice on each pause. Its a fun technique you get very large coins and big spacing, you have to weld kinda cold to do it and have your balance and gas flow just right. If you dont because of the slow travel speed you will actually etch your weld behind you. Also th...

Re: Aluminum What causes this?
Are sure the cracking is from the 4043 and not something else? I have never used 4043 on the xray pressure tanks we do, so mayb its only not good for xray work. Both companies i have worked for that have welded aluminum have allowed the use of 4043 on 6061 as long as they werent getting anodized. An...

Re: Aluminum What causes this?
4043 is fine for 6061. Jody uses it all the time in his videos and I do at work. There are a ton of other options as well 5356 is another good one that is about the same cost as 4043, the rest are considered exotic snd a lot more expensive so I only use them when called out, 5356 is my favorite, I h...

Re: Tungsten inclusion
I agree with otto and red. Better to fix it when its easy to fix verse having to grind out multiple passes to get rid of a bad inclusion and then trying to re tie everything in again. That can suck especially on your root on the bottom.

Re: Can Aluminum be TIG welded with DC+
DC positive can weld aluminum and actually does a very good job on really thin stuff like .030 and under. Iv you use it for stuff much thicker than that the tungsten is going to ball up extremely bad.

Re: Tig welding of copper to copper and brass to brass
Yes you can tig brass. You need to wear a respirator. It does suck to weld cause it does have a tendency to pop on to your tungsten if you get of to hot. At least that's my experience with it.

Re: tig tack failure
I can't tell from the pic because I am on my phone and quality sucks but one way to tell titantium is it will discolor like stainless but a lot worse. You could try heating up a spot with a standard cup and see how bad of discolors. Stainless should be silver or gold if you hold the post flow on it,...

Re: Got a little idea
I like the sub division idea that would make of easiest for users to find yge products and reviews they want but probly very difficult to do. The forum under general shop talk would be a good way to test it out. If its popular and gets pa led than maybe go to the sub division idea.

Re: Got a little idea
I think it would be good in the particular processes areas. Because each process has specific products. If someone wanted to see what other tig gloves are out there it would be easier to just go to the tig section.

Re: Great suggestion from a member...
I love the tig finger but it would be even better if it were in a glove. I used to have these Tillman gloves with drag pads incorporated in the gloves they worked well but definitely not as good as the tig finger. It would be probly the best glove out there.

Re: Got a little idea
I think that's is a cool idea. It would be cool to see what others use, because a lot of the time we use what we know, not necessarily what's best.
