Re: First beads - no penetration!

I don't know that particular machine - But are you running the right polarity?
Something looks very wrong.

Re: MIG Amps

I've also tested the 6:1 theory against the Miller calculator. FCAW 0.9 mm wire, 4.8 mm mild steel (3/16"), 190 - 220 amps and 15 - 16 volts. The ratio doesn't work for me. Am I missing something? (I have no doubt that Todd Bridigum can weld very well.) Just a little, maybe meaningless input -...

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)

Not actually today, but a project i did a while ago. Stainless 316L frames for UV-lights. The units have 4 or 6 pcs. 130W UV tubes! They make a hell of alot ozon when test running them, and they will burn your eyes (like welding) in relative few seconds. Really nasty stuff. https://dl.dropbox...

Copper and brass is quite forward to weld - Do you have some specific problems doing that?

This is a welded windmill-tip, i've produced alot of those.

Re: problem with syncrowave 200 digital

What I meant by not getting full amps was with the machine set to 200 I would only actually get 180 to 130 amps at full pedal. I will asIk about the breakers. syncrowaves are great machines I have a 300 in.net shop at home but mine is water cooled. The fan on his machine runs, almost constantly. Cou...

Re: Hobart handler 120 dial-in?

Migatronic appears to be manufactured in India, explaining the rather impressive, though imperfect translation to British English. Nowhere do I find a specification for MIG/MAG voltage ranges, only ultimate weld current. This appears to be an oversight in the literature. It's actually a Danish bran...

Re: Hobart handler 120 dial-in?

For setting a MIG machine, it is the open circuit voltage you're looking for, and on a digital machine is the number displayed. Hi Steve, Please help me to understand this. The open circuit voltage is what you read whem pulling the trigger, and reads a multimeter? My Sigma has a voltage reading, bu...

Re: New Here-What MIG machines are you guys running?

I'm running a Migatronic Automig 183 MPS, and a Migatronic Sigma 300 Pulse at home - At job i run a Migatronic KDO 325 and some ESAB LAN 315/ESAB LAX 380 The machines are probably not known in the US. A little edit; The Sigma 300 are traded in for a new Sigma² 400 watercooled machine - Can't wait. ...

Re: Up Vs. Down ???

You will under normal circumstances get better penetration when welding uphill. How much more depends on gun-angle, amps/voltage settings, travelspeed, etc, etc.

Re: ESAB MIGMASTER 280

That hissing description sounds like "spray transfer", which surprises me with 75/25. I think it is possible to acheive spray-transfer with that gas-mix. On my job, we are running some old Esab LAN 315 - They're like OP's machine, one coarse-powerdial ranging 1-4, and a fine-power dial 1-...

Thanks a lot! I guess I will have to inquire with Lincoln on which gas is required. I was wanting to use Ultracore FCP309L all position for disimilar metals. Take a look at the TDS; http://www.lincolnelectric.com/assets/en_US/Products/Consumable_StainlessNickelandHighAlloy-UltraCore-UltraCoreFCP309...

Re: short arc to spray

We use 75/ 25 gas to mig mild steel the problem is it wont go to full spray. It was suggested that a 90/10 mix will allow both short arc for thinner stuff and full spray for the thicker jobs. Thanks Mike H What's the voltage and wirespeed? On job, i easily run spray with a 82/18 gas Ar/Co2 (standar...
