Yup, they were used to house 120/24 VAC transformers for obsolete bldg management sys....I cut holes in them for the outlets and baked the paint on...I used one of the transformers to trigger my shop heater.weldin mike 27 wrote:Hi,

My welder and grinder gang boxes....It'll be nice being able to leave all grinders plugged in and just grab the one wearing the disc/wheel I need....Dug those metal boxs out of the trash too

Re: 4 welder/cutter cart in progress
Thanks, Otto It's a work in progress....all made from scrap so far-even the casters were picked from the trash....It's just a matter of me finding more scrap and the time to work on it. I started this whole welding thang a couple of months ago cause I plan to swap a V-8 into my Jeep TJ, but needed t...

Re: I told myself NOT to weld my clamp to the workpiece, but
Ouch! Jody's MIG ground idea works great for other processes, too. For years I've used a 10' length of 2-0 gauge wire with 6' stripped, looped back to the start of the strip & soldered. I can throw it around a pipe (or anything else) and stick the free end through the loop like a "sheep-sh...

4 welder/cutter cart in progress
Decided I needed to get the equipment off their indivual carts and all in one place that was easy to roll around and feed off just one cord and outlet. So this is where I'm at with it at the moment....The red metal box is a gang box that contains all the Nema 6-50 outlets-each welder will remain plu...

Re: Disappointing online welder purchase
I'll tell the rest of the story................. So OK, I unbox the welder and discover the super short tiny gauge leads and flimsy work clamp, then I go to their website to price longer leads.....Yep, they have 10' leads @ 50 bucks each, but what was really interesting was on the page for the longe...

I told myself NOT to weld my clamp to the workpiece, but..
Yeah, I actually TOLD myself NOT to do it.....But I did anyway :( Had to hammer the clamp off...so it's destroyed.....It left the swivel foot, tho. Yaknow, I think I'll leave it there as a reminder...I could grind it off and toss the clamp in the trash, but that might make it too easy to forget :) h...

Re: Disappointing online welder purchase
Nah, I hate dealing with lawyers....And the only solution the company offered was I could pay to ship it back because it wasn't a warranty issue. I made new 10 ft cables yesterday in a larger AWG...It welds fine, in fact it welds danged good. The point of my post was to suggest you NOT use their web...

Disappointing online welder purchase
I recently purchased one of those Chinese inverter DC stick welders. I'll just say it was one of the two top brands you see advertized, so as not to ruffle any feathers. The welder arrived promptly via FedEx with no damage....Upon unboxing, I was disappointed....The welding leads were only 6AWG and ...

DIY rod oven? Who has done it, or has ideas?
I've got lots of spare time at work and plenty of scrap heavy wall gauge electrical cabinets of every size....Been thinking some of them might make a great DIY rod oven....insulated and with thermostatic controlls, even. So, who has done it or wants to do it, and how did you do it, or how would you ...

But you are a pro, doing pro work-structural, code work using QWP's and having to prove your welds by DT and NDT....So of course you never had the need to use something as user friendly as 7014. I'm glad the rod is out there for the hobbist and the artisan...The farmer....The kid wanting to fab up h...

Re: Thoughts On 7014 Rods ???
Plus: -Super easy to strike, restrike, and maintain arc, unlike 7018 -70,000 PSI tensile strength, like 7018 -Hi deposit rate, quicker welds, more inches of weld per duty cycle -Not near as sensitive to improper(unheated, dry) storage as 7018 Minus: - Mid to low penetration compared to 7018 on thick...

Re: beginer question
For OP:
I would think the instructor would turn his head and allow you to take home a fistfull of 9018 for homework, seeing as you are dedicated unuff to do homework....Same for whatever rod you are training on at the time in class.
But that's just me, and that's how I think.

Re: beginer question
Some say a quick way to 'dry out' a 7018 rod is to stick it to the work for a second and let it heat up, LOL, don't bother. If however, you've burned a partial rod with no problems, make certain to scrape the tip with a ruff file before restriking it..It won't hurt to brush the weld clean too before...

Re: beginer question
Yes...and no :) WAY too many amps will blast away the rod end and blow a hole in your work.....but usually it's just a matter of practice. Start by setting your amps by following general guidelines related to rod (7018) and rod diameter (3/32)....In your case, 70-100 amps should get your started.......

Being welders, they can construct some simple scaffolding, I would think.....It can also be rented rather cheaply.

It's fersure a fact that inverter welders are here to stay, but at the moment our markets are flooded with some really crappy imports. It's a non issue providing your welder retains it's factory power cord and molded plug, AND your wall outlet and distribution panel is wired properly....INCLUDING proper earth ground rod from panel to earth. I've got expensive habits myself, and sometimes my habits change, so money is always a concern, yaknow? So here's how I approach 'investing' in a new hobbie/habit. Buy the unit that will do MORE than you initially think you need (in case it turns into a real addiction), plus buy the unit that has th...

Sorry, but it's rather hard to picture your situation only knowing the height of the tanks....Are they large and flat topped, clustered together, far apart, connected by overhead piping, indo...

Sounds possible. Have you discussed it with Miller AND Lincoln? I too bought the 210MVP but didn't discover Jodie's site until well afterwards. As far as gas bottles go, I went to my local mom and pop LWS and bought a 125 cubic foot bottle of 75/25 for $138 plus tax last month...Yeah, I know that's cheap, but that's the going price here...While I was there I als...
