Re: MIG Downhill part 2 along with some uphill

In the course of my work, I do a fair bit of downhill welding with Mig. I weld with .052 wire at 25.3 V and 350 IPM. I am curious as to how much penetration one can get downhill welding with this set up. Also, would the uphill technique you showed be suitable with these settings? Thanks.

Re: Considering welding as a career. Need advice!

I've been welding for about six or seven year (I lost count because of all the fun I have had) I have been able to do small projects, heavy construction, and heavy transport industry. I enjoy what I do and still cannot believe I get paid to have fun 10 hours a day. Also, the people you meet in the i...

Re: Uphill MIG welding, forklift

Wasn't meaning to challenge anyone but what I make requires a very long service life for hundreds of thousands of miles. Our procedures do no allow for any uphill and very limited downhill welding. Because of this, we have a strong track record with our customers. So, for me it was more for curiosit...

Uphill MIG welding, forklift

I was wondering why anyone would use .035 er70s-6, short circuit, 19.5v @260ipm for such thick material? I routinely weld steel that is anywhere from 1/4 inch to 1.5 inches and better and use no less than 25.0v @ 350 ipm using .052 wire. I would think that you would not get very good penetration at ...

plasma vs oxy/fuel cutting

Great video, however, I would have liked to seen more on oxy/fuel cutting as I work primarily with steel and use fuel other than acetylene. Thanks.

Re: Acetelyne steel welding

I agree, oxy/acetylene welding is still useful and relatively inexpensive. I know this from buying my own equipment. My welding machine, complete with a wire feeder cost me over 4 grand. I can't touch a plasma torch set up for less than a $1000 not to mention that I would also have to buy an air com...

inductance settings

I regularly weld 3/8 inch and better steel at 25.5 v and 355 ipm. I was wondering if changing the inductance settings will have the same effect at that voltage and wire speed. Thanks.

Re: Belt guard part two

The belt guard looked great but is the rest of the compressor going to get a facelift as well? Seems only fitting with such great workmanship.

Re: Can see what I'm welding

I use a Miller Digital Elite hood on my job and I had the same problem. I also wear corrective lenses. My problem seeing the joints was fixed when I got a new prescription for my glasses. Another thing that has helped is to either clean the cover lens or replace it regularly. Good luck.

Baking 7018 rod

I have been welding for about five and a half years now. On some jobs I have been on the only rod used is 7018 and it is unbaked. I was taught that baking 7018 is critical for several reasons. Just how critical is baking?

Jody,

Just a quick note to say thanks for such great videos. As a fairly new welder (less than 8 years experience) I find your tips and tricks videos very helpful. Thanks again
