2% lanthanated should be the same whether you call it wolfram or tungsten. Wolfram is just the German word for
tungsten.

A lot of top metalmen that do restorations, panel replacement, and complete body rebuilds in steel and aluminum
use O/A. It is more maleable especially if you do more hammer work after welding, its less likely to crack.

Re: What filler rod to match 3003 to be clear anodized?

A lot of M/C tank shapers use a strip of the parent metal for filler if they are going to polish.
I have never seen a M/C tank anodized.

Re: 1/8" bend test

The bar stock is very different metal than the weld. It is rolled, compressed, and work hardened.
The weld is just deposited on the melted ends of the bar stock like cast steel.

Re: Dull looking welds

Introducing the filler rod to the puddle is the same with OA or tig. Either way you don't melt the rod in to the puddle.
The rod is dipped in the puddle.

So I wonder what kind of fun it would be with pure hydrogen or half hydrogen and half oxygen. That would be cool for a bout two seconds until your face burned off. Seems interesting! Don't anyone try it. Oxy/hydrogen gas welding is used to torch weld aluminum by some that make motorcycle tanks and ...

When welding 3003 h14 I use 1100 filler rod. I use flux from TM tecnologies ---http://www.tinmantech.com/
I like to use 3/64 1100 mig wire to help keep the bead flatter.

Re: Aluminum welding in 1932

Acetylene smoking and burning it off is to anneal aluminum for shaping it easier. It has nothing to do with welding it.
When the flux melts the metal is very close to melting temp.

Use flux and a slightly carburzing flame. Glasses made for aluminum welding reduce
flare from flux.

I O/A weld aluminum sheet .050 and .062" making motorcycle tanks and fairings.
It is faster and easier to get complete penetration. The weld can be planished
without cracking, zero leaks.

Re: Oxy-Acetylene welding a trailer

Thin metal like a HF trailer can be easily welded sucessfuly by one competent at O/A. Airframes were all done that way at one time. I have built motorcycle sidecar frames for off road racing with no failures with O/A.
