5p is the root bead 70t is 7010 same as 6010 just higher tensile,8010 just higher tensile it may just be for testing to qualify you for all 3 filler metals but who really knows contractors tweak tests all the time to see if guys can really weld

the problem with chrome is that if iys 5,9,p-91 you need a good purge if you dont get a good root on the first try and you have a cut out that can be a real drag,another is you have a 400 degree preheat with fibreglass insulation(itchy stuff) this can be more of a hassle that a paycheck is worth for...

first of all where are you located? im a member of ua local 322 so nj. are you guys taking any travelers? secondly we have the same problem alot of guys dont want to deal with the problem of welding chrome, certain grades of chrome can be a real hassle in our local we deal with 5, 2-1/4, 9,and p-91 ...

it all depends on what your doing if the weldment can withhold the heat sometimes you can go higher to 1100 or so bringing temp up slowly and holding for an hour then bring it down slowly then wrap we used this process to heat stress amine piping in oil refinerys

bankswelding. i wish you luck it sounds like you are in a bit of a bind the fellow who submitted your first reply made a great point i am a union btj and rig pipeline welder and my truck has been parked in driveway since october right now economy is so bad no ones paying for anything to be done good...

what works for me is a 3/32 tungsten at 80 90 amps, i always walk cup just change cup size feather land and knock off sharp edge with file lay, open root to 3/32 opening and lay wire in joint slowly walk over filler wire staying on mostly on wire and root will wash in be careful not to travel too fa...

another tip is to change polarity to dcen the arc is more stable and you dont get the flowing effect and always remember dont pay any attention to how the slag flows just focus on the weld. we use this process to weld ss pipe in petro- chem. plants when purging is too costly an option on complicated...

i used passive gear for 20 plus years before i started using auto darkening shield last year. i use a lincoln vista the price is reasonable and works very well for welding pipe at low amperage and also in extreme high amperage situations, also you dont have to buy special clear lenses you can use of...
