Re: Fine Setting
I have a Miller Bobcat 225G. I have watched fieldRes youtube video explaining the amperage/voltage. I understand that he is using the Lincoln SA. Is the Bobcat the same in that the fine dial is adjusting voltage and not amperage? I would be better off running the large adjustment nob at the top end...

Well they look a lot nicer on the 1/8" than the tread plate. How did you break your tungsten and why did you choose to break it? Sometimes it does get a lot built up but usually I get a little and just grind it because breaking it can cause problems with tungsten cracking making your arc do we...

First TIG beads/ practice
I bought a Lincoln square wave TIG 200 a few months back and this is the first time I have had a chance to do some practice. It didn't go all that well. I had some. 063 tread plate. I was getting really frustrated. I moved to so he 1/8 inch flat bar. The results didn't improve. I went back inside th...

Re: Practice with 7018
I thought I would update more practice shots. I was 90 amps 3/32 7018. The weld looked good but the slag was really hard to remove. I'm not sure why the slag was so hard to remove. I thought it was a sign that my weld is still too cold. I really tried to keep a short ARC and move side to side.

Re: Made in China Tig welders
I was in a similar situation. I'm just a hobbyist welder. I was wanting a TIG machine but didn't want to spend a lot of money. I had been MIG welding for a few years and wanted to learn to TIG. I have a Thermal ARC 181i and bought a TIG torch for this machine. The machine was awesome and I really li...

I found this full size regulation glass backboard for sale on the local classifieds. I paid $200 for the backboard which include the mount. I just had to build the pole and arms.

Re: Hi and request help with purchase decision ??
Congratulations. I'm in a similar spot. I have a couple of MIG machines and have been welding for a couple of years teaching myself to weld by watching videos and talking with local welders. Now I'm wanting to learn to TIG weld. I would like to stay around the 2K range for a new TIG welder. I just c...

What am I doing wrong???
I have been trying to weld an end cap on some 2 1/2" pipe. I tried to do this going uphill. I get these big globs. I've tried turning down my settings and it didn't seem to help. It's 1/4" thick pipe with .030 wire.

Re: Practice with 7018
Looking better. Even beads will come with time. Every welder you use will feels bit different. But it looks like your right about needing to go a bit hotter. Try running 3 or 4 passes at a set amperage and then bump it up 2 or 3 amps. Keep pushing it till it starts to feel out of control. Or until ...

Re: Practice with 7018
Don't be afraid to turn the machine up if you need to. If I were teaching you, I would have you stay away from whip and pause at this point. Do what Poland suggested, and use a steady drag with some slight side to side 'weave'. If you are 'weaving' pause on each of the toes to allow the weld to com...

Practice with 7018
I have been practicing with some 3/32 7018 on 1/4 steel plate. I started out at 80 amps and my last bead was at 87 amps. I still think I can go a little hotter maybe bump to 90 amps. I really would like to get the slag to peel off. I have a thermal Arc 181i. Any suggestions? I know I need to learn t...

Re: Which flap discs?
I use the Walter 40 grit flap discs. I also have some 60, 80, 120 discs. They are great and last a long time. As it gets worn down you just have to take off the orange plastic. This gives the edge back and it continues work great. There are three arrows which allow you to refresh the disc. Once the...

Re: Best Lightweight Steel Tubing
I would think that just standard mild steel in a .060 to .078 wall thickness would handle the weight with minimal flex. You can always add extra bracing if needed. I think DOM or Chromoly tubing would be overkill and overpriced.

Re: Eagle Scout Project
ttreb4, May I suggest the alloy called "CorTen"? It is designed to rust to preservation, meaning once it rusts, the oxides form a protective coating a bit like aluminum or stainless, so once it has a good patina on it, it degrades much more slowly and should last for generations. Steve S ...
