Re: store issue
I have the XL, and quite like it. Depending on the weld position, I'll slip my last two fingers in it and rest my middle finger on it. Or, I'll slip the middle and third finger in it, and shield my "pinky" behind. I've even used it on my rod hand when I have to feed from very near the wel...

Ive tried a few! Servore auto lense $50,rubbish.very poor optics with patchy screen.noticable differences in shade at multiple points.i tried 2 or 3 and all went in the bin2 Miller auto $90,fairly good, but susceptible to staying activated/darkened with excessive heat.wouldnt advise for big wire flux...

Re: how long weld 6 inch sch 40 steel pipe GTAW
I think an hour per butt would be a good time to be aiming for,for now.
with tig you can only move as fast as the amps allow,to a certain extent.the faster welders ive worked with would root 6 inch at +140 and fill at 180 (wps dependant)

Beef up the tacks at the end of the joint so they are solid and have full penetration.then just run into them.

Ground clamp on the negative leg, torch on the positive (our symbol for this is DC-). We work to WPS that has been used for a couple of decades and approved by our customer: NASA. These are high grade parent materials that must have 0 porosity and 0 inclusions and 0 contamination. We've been doing ...

Chances are its reflected light entering from behind you and bouncing off the inside lens and giving you a flash.is there white walls,shiny/reflective surfaces or other welders in the vacinity?

Re: 6G Test Mig/Tig
Did an asme9 test in stt last year.there are synergic settings in the feeder or you can set the voltage and wfs seperate if preferred at 12 o clock you weave side to side to limit penetration, down to about 1:30 then change to the middle of the puddle for the rest of the way down, slight drag about 10...

Re: At what PSI do you change your bottle?
If working on mild/carbon steel you will hear a sizzle at the first sign of impure shielding, even before seeing surface porosity. Its easy to react immediately. Working with stainless is totally different, only when you stop welding and inspect the bead will you see the tell tale black finish that in...

Re: New to Stick, welding 4-5 / 7-8 ?
Its tricky there, the key is being on top of the problem on every fill on the way out.if it is getting proud in the middle on the previous passes it gets magnified every time. it is evident in your second pic, must be your last fill before capping,on the right hand side of the pic.you cant cap over th...

Re: Tips for dealing with arc Blow
Lorch,a pretty big German welder manufacturer, have tried to solve this problem, and sell a few dc inverters that have small amounts of ac current superimposed over the dc current,to help nullify the arc blow. welding pipe mostly,i dont experience arc blow.i was taught by an old hand though to never p...

Re: Voltage/current curves
You dont need any more welders to be as good as good as travis on a pipeline speed is king, then you need to adjust both amperage and voltage to get the sweet spot between you,the rod,and the machine.then you can put down metal both quick and clean. To get good at pipe all you need is a half decent w...

Re: Voltage/current curves
i think you are confusing OCV with working voltage Open Circuit Voltage is whats present before an arc is struck, and only directly affects how easy a rod will strike up crappy welders could be as low as 48v,good ones up to 115v ive seen Working Voltage is whats present when actually welding.this is ...

To keep the puddle nice and flowing, with less amps,i use 1.6 wire adding very little at a time.
Too much wire,or too big a wire chills the pool and it loses momentum
or walking the cup can have the same benefits

Well I just spent a hour practicing: 8) I find that I tending to excavate with the rod, and make a short arc, on the forward stroke. On the back stroke, I am tending to long arc as it seems to fill the puddle back up better. Correct? All in all it went much better. Any help/hints will be appreciate...

Re: Inverters and 6010
An inverter looks like this Welding-CC.jpeg Transformer looks like this fig 4.2.jpeg copied and pasted so not accurate but you get the idea holding a long arc with a small inverter and a 6010 means the point on the above graph would lie outside the curve.basically the welder cant supply enough power...

Re: Inverters and 6010
It comes down to the working voltage (as opposed to open circuit voltage) that is required to burn the rod.cellulose rods need more volts to maintain an arc. The second aspect regards the volt/amp curve of a constant current welder i.e. arc welder.transformer based machines have a drooping curve,tha...
