Re: Can "better" flow meter save me gas?

Thomas, In my opinion, I would shorten your hose length and maybe install the orifice like we did in that thread before you purchase another regulator. I do not feel a more expensive regulator will help save gas. Even with a more expensive regulator you will still have that rush from the extra volum...

Re: Spray Vs. Short Circuit???

Gary, Know that that post was not directed toward you in any way. It just amazes me that there are so many out there who either stick to GMAW-S religiously for whatever reasons and those who either have never heard or are not familiar with spray transfer. Case in point, and I have used this example ...

Re: Lincoln aspect 375

I will let you in on a little secret now that it has been months since the last FABTECH. They didn't release the Aspect 375 yet because it was still in Beta testing and they were still working out some of the bugs. They say everything is a go now though. I have not struck a arc with it but those &qu...

Re: bending aluminum for a fuel cell?

I do both on my fuel tanks. I try to have as much formed as possible to keep the labor time down. Usually I am welding up fuel tanks for experimental aircraft so they are in the .030-.100 range and almost always 3003. Be careful with the 6061 as it really shouldn't be bent and will break/crack, espe...

Re: Spray Vs. Short Circuit???

All right, to put a real answer out here instead of being funny, there are major advantages in spray transfer (GMAW) over short-circuit (GMAW-S). The first, and probably most important, is better penetration or depth of fusion. While GMAW-S works well for some applications one of its down falls is l...

Steve,
Yeah, the bad part was I didn't notice it until later the next night as we had left for the evening and I did not go back out to the garage that night. He is a nice guy overall but you hit everything else right on the head.

Yeah, he borrowed the grinder and cut it off himself. What made me mad was he needed an extension cord which I provied and I handed him a neatly wrapped up cord and when he brought it back he set it down all tangled up and messy. Seriously, you don't have enough respect for someone else's property t...

dirtmidget33, My favorite one there was the fuel tank in the bumper.   I would have turned all three jobs down. Although the adventurer in me would be curious about the bumper one. Re: Second Beads

Yeah, well I’ve only been welding for a few weeks now! ;) Turing the wire speed up, does increase the AMPS, but also shoves more wire into the puddle. If you increase the volts, the puddle will flow more / wet out. Now if he had an inductance control, / Pinch that would really help! 8-) Well, we ar...

Re: Second Beads

The beads are fairly consistent. Turning up the voltagr will have the opposite effect lowering the amperage. Voltage controls arc cone, wire feed speed the amperage. You need more amperage to flatten those brads out and to reduce your cold lap at the toes. Sorry Shield Arc, had to correct you....

Re: How do you tig weld in a tight spot?

I am late to the party once again but I believe I can add to this conversation. The first question I have to ask it your torch angle? Areally you straight on to 10° or more of a 45°? The 45° will not help you especially if you are running a lot of gas flow. I am experienced with cast alum and the na...
