LtBadd, Yes, it is a closed group meaning the posts cannot be seen unless you are added and are a member. I thought about that when I posted the link. I am not sure how many here are members on the Facebook group. I can however, get the three winners welds put up here sometime this weekend for all t...

Yes, there was some talent shown there!

Just so everyone knows, and to close out this thread, this giveaway has ended. There will be more down the road though so keep a sharp eye out.

Re: Cast aluminum advice

jroark, I would recommend the spool gun as I have no experience with brazing alum. It will be difficult to get set just right and I recommend pre-heat depending on how big the actual piece is. Also, clean, clean, clean. I do quite a lot of cast alum repairs but always use TIG and 4043 works best as ...

The calculator I cannot share, propitiatory, but there are apps you can download that will get you close. Keep us posted on this project, this one peeks my interest.

Re: Production welding

jroark, I'm not sure where I want to start with this one. I guess the first thing I should say is follow what your employer says above all else, unless it is a safety hazard of course. Those settings are extremely high for the given materials but I guess can work. Your wire speed suggests you are us...

Re: ALUm MIG gun is cutting my 1/8" angle ..help!!!!!!!!

I replaced the drive roller(with key) and push roller, both are knurled . the are stamped .035 WWoW, Here is the first thing that popped out to me but has nothing to do with blowing through your material. You should not use knurled drive rolls on alum wire. You will tear up the wire causing pieces ...

AndersK, I really like that design you have there. You need to post some of those pics on Instagram. Thanks for the mention as well. It is amazing how well the air mufflers do, and they are cheap. I paid full retail for one of mine at almost $10 but when you consider how expensive purge equipment is...

Re: Got a question for the big pipe welders

kripl88, You didn't mention the process but since this is the MIG section that is what I will assume. I have a calculator for mechanized MIG welders and it came up with roughly 20 arc hours using welding over 227" circumferential inches .045 Lincoln 81M (dual shield), 60* included bevels, using...

Laughablefusion, I can agree with everyone on both the "welcome, no question is a dumb one" and the answers to your question. To directly answer the walking the cup with mig, I do not recommend that, especially as a beginner. It is hard to do and you have to have everything set up right an...

Re: Etching question

Millerismyname, Here is another thing you can try that CrummyWelding (Roy Crumrine) showed me. He uses a #5 regular cup to cut down his etching zone. I use a gas lens and thought it is better but in testing, because I didn't believe him ;) ) I ran a gas lens and regular set up side by side and the r...

BigWill, I will let the article explain better the processes but yes, you are in spray transfer mode, and you are running pretty hot, around 300 amps I would guess. Keep in mind you need to do what your employer tells you but I advise against whipping motions when spraying, or any process really. Wh...

Re: Forney 270 Amp Mig welder?

Matt, I have not used the Forney machines but have heard good things about them as a VERY light hobbiest. I would respectfully disagree with them being better than Miller or Lincoln machines but different strokes for different folks. I saw their booth at FABTECH 2014 and really didn't give them much...

John, Welcome to the forum! I am a little confused by your post, lets see if we can get a clearer image here. First, as was mentioned, a picture is worth 1,000 words so that would be the best help. Second, it seems like you are welding on used fuel tanks which brings to mind that you might be gettin...

PBnKjelly, Welcome to the forum! The best of luck on your new venture. You must take them off and put the caps on. They do sell a cap that all...

ogfrmpa, Welcome to the forum! The first thing to pop into my mind reading your post was, why are you lubing your wire?
