Re: What's everybody's favorite self shielded flux core wire

Not knowing your exact design or strength requirements, first response is it should be fine. Although the T1 technically requires the 110ksi, this will vary with the job or WPS. For example, I did 3/4" T1 welded to A500 Grade B with Lincoln SuperArc LA-90 using 95/5. This gives approx. 106ksi u...

Re: New Guy from Carlsbad, California

Lonnie, Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have a very interesting project there. I would like to build a chassis one day so this intrigues me. Can you get us some pictures of your work? My brother wants to install a cage in his car this year, so that will be my first experience welding roll cage...

Re: What's everybody's favorite self shielded flux core wire

DSL power, You realize that the T1 is quenched and tempered and requires a different procedure to weld than mild steel or AR400? I cannot recommend using Lincoln NR-233 when welding T1, as it only has a tensile strength of 70-95ksi and a Charpy V-Nnotch of 27ft-lbs. Mig welding T1 requires 110ksi an...

jde120,
First welcome to the forum! The person to help you with this question it Otto Nobedder aka Steve. He is well experienced in SS. I agree, you need to follow the WPS, that will answer most of your questions. The best of luck to you!

Re: 6g SMAW Test

SkyDawg, I think it is looking good. The grinding will go down as your skill/seat time goes up. My first few 6G 2" practice pieces required a lot of grinding. I know you don't want to grind and it can be embarrassing when others hear the grinder fire up, but are you allowed to use the grinder t...

Arizona SA200, Man that is scary! .......or I was thinking what about welding/bolting a hinge to the saw and sheet metal so that it does a 270 from vertical to horizontal. You might have to get creative but it would work.

Re: Oxygen/Acetylene Safety please chime in

Actually our next safety meeting will cover torch safety/how to use. I have engineers that come out in to the shop from time to time and will help out. One thing I have noticed it a lack of torch knowledge from them ( I know, I know that is not their forte). For example I noticed not knowing how to ...

Re: Cast Iron Vice Repair.

Second opinion is a good thing, my head is not in it today. As far as another method I guess all that's left in gas weld it, but that is not my area of expertise, or silicon bronze. I would still go with the nickel rod myself.

Because cast iron is full of "junk" it will do that. But I am no expert on cast. I guess that rules out tigging the 309.

Steve, So that's one of those "You might be a redneck if..." kinda things  I think we were looking at two different things. Or I was leading you astray. I don't know. I was referring to the spatter on the plate, not the nozzle. Oh well, I am getting the shop ready for big wigs and am ...

Stretch, To be honest it normally takes weldors a while to be able to wrap a pipe like that. You are doing great. I am beginning to wonder if it is really your second week welding :D I really like the stand. I made smaller than that with square tube when I was learning, it helped me a lot. .....Even...

Steve,
Can't say I have ever heard the term "duck butter".
On the spray vs spatter, I am having a blonde moment, are you referring to my wording. It has been a long day.

Aim your gun more toward the bottom, not much just a little.
I find it odd they won't let you use nozzle gel. They must want to save a buck. Nozzles are more expensive that gel. Oh well rules are rules.
Is that a Bernard Centerfire nozzle?

Re: Could you give me some advice ? Pics Inside

brow_tines, First I will say you are doing a great job! The bottom weld in the last picture looks especially good. I think you are on the right track. If you want really picky in the first pic, top weld, looks like it has a little roll over. Adjust your gun angle and you will be fine. As far as your...

I do not have direct experience with Everlast and do not know how well 6011 would work, but if you can get some I would use 6011 over 6013. I am sure the 6013 will work on your machine. Both will be fine for your practicing. We in the US also do vertical downs on pipe welding. I am not surprised you...

Re: undercut while practicing with no filler rod?

Daniel, I think it is looking good. Cant wait to see more pics. As far as starting on the end of a weld try lighting up on your last ripple and when it melts add your filler and go. When you end on the beginning of a weld, melt the weld at the beginning and add one more dip, presto you won't know wh...
