Re: noob mistakes: horizontal tig issues
Tonight he had us walking the cup 3g, and my welds were big and gnarly, and his reply was, "just practice." I argued that practice makes permanent, not perfect. Practicing improper technique only yields improper technique engrained into muscle memory. He once again debated this. . I see y...

John, Man where do we start? First motto that comes to mind is "When is doubt keep it out" How many times have we all smashed our fingers when we knew full well we shouldn't have our fingers there in the first place. I know someone who had his leg in between two I beams while someone else ...

Re: ArcOne singles vs Super Singles
Monty86LU551,
It appears that the Singles S240 is a basic single shade ADF with no bells and whistles. The Super Single S240 is also single shade but has sensitivity, delay and grind mode.

Re: Need help on making my tig weld better
Also, expect other advice that may differ from mine. Give each a go, as there's more than one way to skin a cat, and we have some talented aluminum welders here. Steve S One method to try is tapping the rod into the puddle (like you would tap a pencil on the table) instead of pushing the rod in lik...

Re: just got ac/dc tig inverter, what gas and fillers to get
Monte, Welcome to the Forum. One question for you is how are you using your machine? If you are just beginning and practicing in the garage than a wide selection is not necessary. I would recommend everything that has been mentioned by the others for filler. One thing I might change is the 308L. If ...

Re: E3 purple tungsten, question?
John, I have and use E3 on my Millers and Lincolns and have no problem with it. I received sample 3/32" and purchased 1/8". Honestly I cant tell a big difference in it but I don't use it to run long beads. Basically we just tried it out and it works fine. It will work fine on AC for you. I...

Which is faster- Spray or Pulse?
Here is a question I hope to get a lot of input on. I think this will make an interesting discussion. Around my shop there has been debate for about a week now as to which MIG process is faster- Spray transfer or Pulse. I have done a lot of research online and talked to others and now would like to ...

First picture to me looks like it is just inconsistent ripples. The second...Never seen that before either. Looks too hot? Are those cracks? The third looks a little to hot. The fourth looks like a good fit up!

You know now that you say that this might be oxy-fuel. The plate bottom stops around the 7-1/4" mark on scale. I would say it is around .060 out. I actually was going over to get my feeler gauges and was side tracked. I will look for more samples for you. I did think of one thing that really me...

Re: TIG Aluminum prep.
Wen, I never use acetone just because I don't like the smell of it or it burning. A lot of people use it before welding Alum. Our main reason for not using it is safety in the shop, we don't want a fire by accident. As far as wire brushing I use a SS brush on some parts and others we just put togeth...

Re: Bubbles in weld
Dirtbag, Two things come to mind if it is not your gas cylinder empty. Is your nozzle clean of weld berry's? Is the fiberglass coming free inside your nozzle? A clogged nozzle will not let enough gas through for adequate coverage. If the fiberglass fibers are coming free inside your nozzle it will g...

I agree. Sounds and looks like short-arc. Short-arc usually stops around 20 volts or 200 amps give or take.

I really can't add anything more than what's already been said except don't mix your green and red anti-freeze. I did this once and is ate a plastic part on my wife's car-twice...not good.
