Nice! The pedal will help a lot. Keep the pics coming.

Now I am interested in your shop set up. Looks sweet. I have wanted to put a set of tools out like you have but don't want them to get all dusty

AndersK,
What an improvement!!!! That my friend is very acceptable! Good job on making those transitions. The fillet is hard let alone a rounded fillet. Keep that up!

Re: Post Flow

DSM8,
Since you are stuck with a 5 second post flow for the moment, to cool off your tungsten faster after your arc goes out touch the tungsten to the material. This will have a cooling effect allowing the material to draw out some of the heat. This especially works if you are welding alum.

Re: Post Flow

Not getting to deep into welding theory but I agree that you should have shielding gas to keep the tungsten silver or not contaminated from the atmosphere. The next important item is to have shielding gas from the atmosphere until the given metal is below it's reactive temperature. Bottom line in my...

Sorry it took so long to respond. The cap is a 1/4" or 3/8" NPT plug, can't remember which. It is what I had laying around.

Pipedream, I am sorry Mick and Steve came off as a little abrasive. I will apologize in advance for that. To give you a little of where they (and we) are coming from, we are in fact a family here. Re: Spray transfer settings

Hi John, Thanks, It’s been great getting all the feedback. I am using 90/10 gas and looked up the settings on Lincoln & Miller’s welding calculators. Miller’s showed .035 - 400-420wps - 24-25v. - 98/2 gas Lincoln’s showed .035 - 390wps - 25v. - 90/10 gas my CTWD is 3/4 inch. So I understand now...

Re: Weld through primer for stick welding?

I'm wondering if anyone has done the experiment... The Ceramic/nickel expensive spatter-spray? How would that perform as a permanent corrosion inhibitor? Or, will it take paint? Steve S Steve, I can coat a piece with my ceramic anti spatter and set it outside for the next few months and find out. I...

A day at Penta Career Center

I had the opportunity to visit the Juniors and Seniors at Penta Career Center in Toledo, Ohio this past Friday. I have been talking with John Sliwinski (WTFH here) the Welding Instructor there for the past few months about welding in general and he mentioned how the students like to have visitors an...

I won't argue about 98/2 being a great choice. I would not have thought of it, since I don't use it. Jonathan, "bless your heart" has a very specific meaning here in the deep south... It translates to, "Forgive him his stupidity / brain damage / birth defects / general retardation. :...

Bigworm40,
I think you need to explain that one a little better. I can weld GMAW-P better than FCAW but that is bacause I am more experienced in pulse. Could that be the case for yourself?

Re: Spray transfer settings

John, Welcome to the forum! There are a few things that come to mind. First, those guides are recommended settings to get you started and in the correct current range not necessarily gospel. Also, I wouldn't be worried about 2 volt difference. Higher voltage will increase your arc length and make yo...

Re: Mig welding SS and beyond.

Welcome to the forum! Looks like a good little prject. I will propose another side of the tri-mix. Wanting to purchase a tri-mix (which in this case would be 90% helium, 7.5% argon, 2.5% co2) is great but the expense for the few inches of weld there is was out there. Steve, bless his heart ;) , gets...

Fibermetal has a like of lightweight helmets that are competitive with Jackson Shadows but stiffer and with sweet headgear. Jackson headgear isn't what It used to be IMHO. I am 50 years old. Always used 11 for MIG, 12 for big sticks. Had 20/13 in one eye and 20/15 in the other, last test about ten ...
