Great work pictures buddy and a interesting thread Spokesy :) Great to find another Kemppi fan :D Have you awill4wd liked MINILOG-function? MarKus, I use MiniLog as my default setting and use it all the time. It was worth buying the MLS 2300 just to get the MiniLog function. :D I refuse to pay Kemp...

@Tam
Thanks bud. Unfortunately all hours are assigned to jobs so do not really have the time, given the fact that it is not much of a hindrance. Just me being picky

Nice pics bud

Re: The what I welded today (/whenever) thread (pics please)
Well I hope your shed will be fine for purpose once you get it done. Tbh I don't really use/need all that space, could cut the bench in half and that would be plenty. My only gripe with the bench is the fact that it has only a 4 inch vice which rarely, if ever comes in handy for pipework with it bei...

Re: Separates the men from the boys.....I'm a boy
Thanks Steve mig wire did the trick!
Settings were good, it was my arc length that was giving me problems I discovered. With such small diameter tubing I was really struggling to maintain the correct distance and angle while getting round the whole weld in like ten seconds! Lol

Some kind of oil ring circuit? That's what I was told. Company makes stuff for offshore if that helps.
Can't be holding much pressure as they do not care about penetration, just a neat looking weld.

 This is what my lecturer told me regarding the welding of thin materials. So here's the deal..... I've got 10mm carbon tubing to weld, 2mm wall thickness. The welds are pipe to plate (pipe obv lol) and butt. The butt welds are the 10mm, but the pipe to plate are 6mm with 1mm wall thickness and...

Hi and welcome...........
Was previously qualified to 5G with oxy-acetylene and just qualified 6G TIG.........my two pence?.........
TIG is much quicker than oxy-fuel in my experience.

Re: Which Processes and Certs Would Be Best
Yeah I kind of agree, I learn well that way. However that being said, I think there is some benefit to figuring some things out for yourself. Although you do learn a lot from other people,I'm sure there will be situations where I come across a job that is totally new to me and have no-one to consult...

Re: Which Processes and Certs Would Be Best
Just practice I guess. Offshore is way down the line for me. Just hoping to secure a job through my work placement and spend the next few years really learning to weld. Been a bit of a struggle to be honest, but I am getting there. Unfortunately I am the only person there that does TIG. New plant, t...

a video on doing a 6G cap (TIG) with just one run. My Lecturer at college said I could do one or two caps for it but I could never do just one as I could not make it so that the cap would have more width in the middle of the bead and less either side as opposed to more width in the bottom portion of...

I'm from Dundee in Scotland. It's about 60 miles North East from the capital, Edinburgh and the same south west from the oil capital of the UK, Aberdeen.

Which Processes and Certs Would Be Best
With a view to working offshore. I have just sat my ASME IX 6G tig steel. http://imageshack.us/a/img7/3415/61935862.jpg ^test piece......at least a week before I get the results. Did this after completing a 5 week college course. I was previously qualified to 5G with MMA and oxy-acetylene years ago....
