Re: “black slag”on weld by autogenous TIG welding with 304

Try using a clean, sharp file and scraper for the final joint face preparation ?

I'm thinking back to the recommendation in Jody's video on a sheared edge prep for an aerospace aluminum butt weld test to eliminate inclusions in the weld.

Thanks Oscar. I tried it but it doesn't change the layout, at least on my screen, when I go into a sub forum.

Re: Format question....

The page is like a screen with stuff written all over it, there's no delineation between messages.

When writing on a laptop, the screen needs to be a 45 deg to see where the hell to write !

Not at all easy to read and too spread out.

@ G-ManBart

You are not alone ! ! ! Agree 200% !

The old format was as good as it gets, clean, uncluttered, and best of all, quick to go through.

Use Devcon to fill any "maori carvings", it makes cleaning easier and you won't snag your hand on a chip doing a final wipe before mounting a job or vice on a table.

If all else fails, try changing your tungsten, preferably to another type and brand.

I've had your problem twice, the second time I had some Linde 2% that confirmed it was a tungsten problem.

This info may or may not be relevant to your unit. I was using a Fronius Magic Wave 270 AC/CD ( 2002 model year ) and I found the following ; when I replaced the 2T/4T "club " it came with standard and fitted a normal WP-20 torch with a foot pedal, I still needed the original torch electri...

Are you able to try a passive helmet with a 10 or 11 lens, just to remove the helmet from the equation ?

And can you clearly see the weld puddle, it's not obscured by a red/orange flare ?

Re: Mig or Tig for License Plate Repair

An option would be to chemically remove the rust / paint and use soft brass shim on the backside, fixed with soft solder using an acid flux. Tin the brass and the plate before fixing to the backside, and then slowly, using minimum heat, fill the holes on the front side using a soldering iron rather ...

Try using the machine on AC. The HF cleans the metal ( like the flux when O/A brazing ) and its easier to heat the base metal without melting. Clean material in weld area with red scotchbrite discs.
