Re: Powering a TIG inverter with a generator?
Wow. Thank you all for taking the time to respond. An unexpected trip to Indiana to get a car led to my absence in this discussion. I have no real world use for this type of setup, it was more so a curious question that popped into my head one day at work. I'm glad I asked though. I wouldn't have th...

Powering a TIG inverter with a generator?
I was wondering if anyone could provide some insight on this. I don't really have any need to do this, I'm just curious. My google-fu is returning a mixed bag of answers. I've heard "it'll be alright" to "it'll melt your welder". I understand generators create very "dirty&qu...

Re: MIG Aluminum FAIL!
Tons of force for sure! That's crazy. What process do you plan to use for the repair? I would think MIG, to retain the uniformity of all the doublers, but what do I know. Haha. I love welding and love talking about it. Now, I just need to find a job in the field. Haha. Until then I'll keep practicin...

Re: MIG Aluminum FAIL!
Is this from the trailer you suspect was in a collision? I wonder what the speed limit is at their yard? Ours is 10 mph, but I work with building materials, not liquid hydrogen! Haha.
You do some fascinating work Otto and I enjoy learning from your post.

Re: New TIG welder having a unique problem with electrodes
Thanks for all the replies. I'll answer your questions in order. Jay_M: The argon and air for plasma go into the same port. Unfortunately, it is a ribbed nipple, not a threaded port. I had to attach another ribbed nipple to my argon bottle just to be able to connect it. I haven't leak tested any co...

Re: New TIG welder having a unique problem with electrodes
Sorry about that. I don't know what I was thinking. Haha. Do argon and air for the plasma come into the machine on seperate ports? Or the same port? Have you leak tested all the hose connections, starting at the bottle? I suspect gas, but there are people far more qualified than I around here and I'...

Re: New TIG welder having a unique problem with electrodes
Might I ask what you have the A/C balance set to? I think you may find the culprit in that setting. Sorry if O sound vague, I'm posting this from my phone. Edit: After hitting submit, I realized "He never mentioned aluminum". Haha. I definitely had a brain fart. Anyway, might I now ask wha...

Re: New guy from So Fla
@Mike - Thanks, Mike. Endless possibilities is right. Just thinking about all the stuff I could build almost gives me a headache. @Bob - Thank you too, Bob. Not a chance I can put it down now! I got my hands on some 3003 flat stock yesterday and ohhh man do I like it. I think I prefer welding ...

New guy from So Fla
Hey guys, I'm a fairly new welder from Florida. I'm 25. I really enjoy the site and it's a great resource of information. I've learned a ton just poking around and reading different post. I've been MIG welding since last summer and I got a Thermal Arc 186 about a month ago. I'm a self taught guy, no...
