Re: Boat trailer

Maybe someone jack knifed the trailer backing it up. If you can replace the whole tongue I would just go that route and bump it up a size.

Re: Snowmachine trailer build, part 1 of 6

I have a 1963 Chevy 1 ton flatbed. 18 inch tires are expensive and I assume 20s are too. Can you change out the hubs to something that accepts 15 or 16 inch rims? That way if you have a pickup you can upcycle its old tires to the trailer so at least the rubber isn't decades old on it. Not trying to ...

Re: Snowmachine trailer build, part 1 of 6

No, if you aren't going fast then you should be good. It looks like more of a trailer to pull behind a tractor with an axle welded to the frame but you aren't getting on the interstate or going far so....I'm all for recycling. In my state you need fenders to pass an inspection. Your state may vary. ...

Am I missing something? Like a suspension? I assume you aren't planning on going far or fast with it.

Interesting idea though, using a table saw top and extensions bolted together. Could probably get some at a scrap yard.

By the title of your post and the first couple of pics I thought you were fabbing up a walker. Pretty work.

Re: Rockers

I'd suggest getting the rockers you need from some place like Raybuck - I just did that on my Sierra and they are nice and heavy. I considered trying to make my own but heavy gauge prerolled material was a better way to go. My truck is two tone so I just used the factory paint line as my cut and wel...

Re: Motorcycle Cargo Trailer

I don't know what you plan to use for the clamshell part to keep it light weight, but the Sears X-cargos can often be had for free or very little money on Craigslist. The free ones may be missing the keys. If the keys are missing write down the number on the lock and go to Thule's website (they make...

Re: Settings chart for MIG? and Fluxcore

Isn't the chart right on the inside of the door? It is on my Weldpak, and believe it has to be on yours as well. And telling you my settings would be worthless as I think it's only about a 100 amp machine.

Re: Welding Business

Good for you on reinventing yourself. I was laid off form my last job of 10 years by a new manager who wanted to bring her own cronies in. Said to hell with the business I was in after 25 years and started doing renovation/handyman stuff. I'm not rich but I'm happy. Pulling for you 100 percent. Good...

Re: my next Project

Can't argue with electric start and little alternator for $200. Too bad they don't run the shaft out the other side so you can have the output for clutch on left and head facing forward for cooling and more of a motorcycle look. Can't wait to see one fabbed up. Cheers!

Re: my next Project

I just looked at the Carrol Stream site - are those Chinese Honda clones? I just picked up a Predator 212cc at my local Harbor Freight for $90 with a coupon to put on an old Troybilt Pony someone gave me without a head or carb. I googled the reviews on the Predators and a lot of minibike folks and g...

The top of the triple tree looks like it's got some seriously pointy corners. Are you going to round those? Billet aluminum would be real purty, too.

Re: Single wheeled trailer for dirt bike

Have you looked at a Uni-go trailer for design ideas re: the hitch mechanism? I don't know if your dirt bike as a 200cc or 650, but I would think that using construction methods for a bicycle trailer (at least I would use a motorcycle wheel/tire assembly and bearings) might be trouble down the road....

Re: my next Project

If you could fabricate some riser blocks a dirt bike handlebar would go on there and look pretty nice. You might want to cut down the width but that's no big deal. Nice looking frame so far. Almost looks like a BMW telelever type front end. If you don't already have your engine look online at the Sm...

Re: Newbie with extension cord question

Thanks all. I'll just leave 8 or 10 ft on the welder and cut a 40 ft length for the welders, making 50 in total for the Miller. Even after buying an extra outlet/plug I guess I'm still cheaper than running a 6/3 or 8/3 to the other side of my garage where I would be using the welders.

Re: Newbie with extension cord question

Yes, single phase 220. What gauge was the original cord on a Thunderbolt or Hobart Stickmate? If I just pull the whole thing I would want to replace it with the right type cord. I can always use this cord as a kickass extension cord for 110. Overkill though. All the pre-made extensions I see are 10/...

Newbie with extension cord question

Hello, Last year I picked up a clean Miller Thunderbolt XL from a welding shop that was downsizing. The retailer they bought it from put a 75 ft electric cord on it with new Nema 6r50 plug. I also just bought a Hobart Handler 190. My question is, can I cut the 75 ft long cable off (at maybe the 10 f...
