Re: La Square shipping price to Aussieland

He did sell them but I saw a notice q while ago that they sold out.

If he puts metric ones on the listing I'll order too. Havent found any here with that wide base unless some plastic crap.

Re: Fantastic tungsten grinder

and add another 100 for the Dremel. Getting close to the 250 for a corded Sharpie.

Nice addition though.

Can you grind with a blob on the tip or do you have to cut first?

Re: Looking for a hobby welder in the UK - what do I avoid?

If youre doing sheet metal get a foot pedal when you buy the machine. Best addition I've made.

The jasic machines, as displayed on your lws's webpage, aren't as small as you might think. They are sold here under a different brand and they are quite wide.

Re: Looking for a hobby welder in the UK - what do I avoid?

With the amp range you are looking at I assume you are aiming at thin aluminium sheet metal welding?

If you can, test the machine at 1-1,5 mm aluminum before buying. That is usually where you can find a difference between them.

Re: Mouth operated valve?

If you use a low voltage DC coil for the solenoid you could connect one side of power source to the frame. Attach the return side of solenoid to a wire attached to your glove. When you apply pressure to the sheet you close the circuit. You could use a thin switch as wrll that would trigger when pres...

Mike, If you want to avoid chinese machines here's some good welders I have used both on steel and aluminium Esab, Swedish (American owners now) but made in different countries now.have many different but if you can find a Handytig AC/DC thats a neat machine and they usually go for a decent price.. ...

Re: Adding pulse functionality to a TIG welder

Interesting you found 40 Hz as the limit. I was experimenting with a digital foot controller that used pulse to increase and decrease current. I was using a PIC processor and ran the output thru photo couplers to isolate the circuits from the welder. 40 Hz was about max I could run it at. Not fast e...

Re: TIG over MIG or MIG over MIG??

It comes down to what weld quality you need to have. What is a "project"? Do you require structural integrity or is it just an appearance issue? If you have a poor weld that need to take load, grind it down and re weld using the procews you do best. Appearance, smooth it out with a grinder...

That is the main reason for me needing to re-grind them

I made it this so I can put them in without cutting the ball off first.

Re: Tungsten Sharpeners

I found an attachment for the Dremel style grinders to grind chain saws with and thought it could be made into a simple tungsten grinder. Turned out quite ok. I'll probably skip the bolt and make drill the correct hole directly into the round piece, easier done when missing a lathe. Easier to make a...

Re: Let's talk extension cords while welding...

I read somewhere an inverter could get seroius damage running on long extensions of insufficient gauge.

If someone know why, it would be of interest.

I guess the quality machines have protection built in for this, as Rick mentioned it wont start if outside range.

We have lots of cast aluminum and this removes residual release agents and cutting fluid so it should be good as wel...

Re: magnesium nightmare

Magnesium is extremely oxidating so you need to make sure you have plenty argon shielding and enough post flow to allow it to cool below ignition temp. If it catches fire do not use water, that can start a chain reaction and act as fuel instead. There are special extinguishers developed to put out m...

That came out nice, I like the looks of it, good job. You would probably save the radiator if hitting a smaller animal. Youre right about the moose, wont stop it.
