Have you guys seen/read Stephen King's "The Mangler"?
After I ran a blade like that through my arm I think of that book everytime i pick up that saw.
A chamfer bit in a wood router does a good job on alu plate, feels safer too

Re: Chop Saw talk
The standard blade is not for stainless, and they state that.
They have a blade made for ss but I think its twice as much.
I killed my standard blade too cutting ss but was able to sharpen it with the side of a cut off disc.

Re: Bending SS rods
That shouldnt be a problem.
With the spring back your cylinder is probably in the right range.
Dont cut the rod before and you'll bend it easily by hand if you have like half meter excess.

Jeff, you were correct. No argon gives white powder on aluminum, I just tried and I was wrong. ![Embarrassed ](./images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)

White and yellow dust makes me think you have zinc involved here. Not that it should matter for burn off ratio, but are you welding magnesium alloy?
Not to disrespect Jeff, but doesnt lack of argon give black soot on ali ( dipping does too, I know that for sure

Re: What am i doing wrong?
Does the tungsten melt just at start or disappear all the way up to the colletbody / lens? If you run longer time and its just in the beginning more pre-flow might help. But do check whole system for leaks first. Try balance set to max value, some machines define it opposite, so you might run at 70%...

There will be a fuel tank on the diamond plate. A catch tank will be hiding behind the alu shell. Will put a fitting thru a grommet on the domed part and connect fuel line there.
The alu shell is only there to keep dirt out.
This is the joint I did

Re: What am i doing wrong?
What AC balance and frequenzy are you running at?
What machine?
Start without pulse to have less parameters to worry about.
120 amps wont be too much without pulse on 3 mm.
Also try and adjust AC balance to minimum cleaning ( less positive electrode, EP) to see if tungsten survives.

Was welding some 1,5 mm to 4 mm diamond plate tonight. I dont have much time with ali but this went easier than I first thought. Beveled the edges down to half thickness of the plate and pushed the sheet up to top level. 100 Amps, melted down the excess sheet and used little more than a half rod of ...

There is a product called firesleeve that is used to protect hydraulic hoses that could be an option. Will also help if you accidentially put your hoses against something hot.

I've been using River weld for a while now, but only with my 9 torch. Collets are very soft, and they split them in three slots. After re-tightening they have bulged so much the argon wouldnt flow. Gas cups, ok havent melted or cracked any. Gas lenses, no issues. Took a picture of the first weld I d...
