Re: SS practice, to get right color
I have wanted to put a set of tools out like you have but don't want them to get all dusty   -Jonathan You know you have to use them to keep dust off? I agree about what you all say about support and a soft grip. I use the tig finger where it helps. I also use an IKEA fire blan...

Re: SS practice, to get right color
I would suggest working on your actual welding technique rather than focusing on the coloring. I still see inconsistent beadwidth and spacing, Better? DSC_0446[1].jpg Ok, needs better consistency and a little too hot in some places. This weld run all around for 450 mm. I was welding 1-2" each ...

As you can see I expose my ignorance I had a feeling it might not be Ti though
Was welding stainless yesterday. Did not fill enough with 1 mm wire and 1,6 was too much., more practice needed for sure.
I appreciate soo much that pro's like you and others here share the details.

Thanks, Anders! The material on the aluminum frames in 7005. The reason for the larger beads is the manufacturers recommend large amounts of dilution with the filler metal (5183 in this case) to prevent cracking. The bigger bead accomplishes this. There are also structural considerations since the ...

Evolutuion works great in a regular saw. Just dont use a cheap one. Needs more torque to cut steel and that equals more power that equals heat which kills cheap saws. If the gears doesnt fail first.

Craig, duct tape works well in any hood if slots are missing.
Remember mechanics first ground rules:
Duct tape for everything loose that shouldnt.

Have you considered Parweld machines?
Thats what I have for TIG since a year back.
They sell for a lot less in the UK compared to here. Maybe good price levrl in Ireland too?

The wider beads on the ali frame, is that for strength or just the nature of ali? I find it hard to get small beads specially on joints like this.

If you care about appearance, put a rod transverse to the pipe and whack on that, gives you less tooling marks and blends the dent better.

Re: Weld through primer for stick welding?
Thank you. I have so many follow up questions and I may present them here over time, but I'll keep it simple for now... One of the replacement parts has the black e-coating. I've read the e-coating is weld-throughable with a stick welder, true? I plan to stick weld a few short lap joints and a bunc...

Re: Weld through primer for stick welding?
Weld through primer is primarily intended for spotwelding lap joints. It wont survive the heat close to a full seam. To protect closed areas it is better to spray with products designed for that, like Dinitrol or Tectyl (there are many different products depending your region) Also weld primer shoul...

Tip,
either laminate or glue the print to cardboard before cutting.
Makes it easier to scribe the metal with thicker pattern.
