Re: Hot dip galvanizing and cracks
Did you test any pieces were you have removed the zinc coating first to make sure it is the steel that has cracked? Between the steel and zinc there are a compound layer of iron-zinc that is very brittle and prone to cracking if cold formed. Could be that the crack is in that layer while the coating...

Repaired three deck chairs yesterday that had got a kinked tube. Have no idea what happened to them (not mine) but I think they got damaged in delivery. IMG208.jpg Cut it out and made a new tube, 22x2mm 6063 Here's it rigged. Had to pull in the "arms" since they spread when I cut the tube....

You know why Santa always has a big smile on his face? Cuz he knows where all the bad girls live 8-) Heard a good ine on the radio this week. They were asking some children about Santa and one girl said "My dad is Santa. I know because I saw his pants under Santa's and I could see his hair too....

Great idea, guess you suffer from the "lack of concrete" disease as many of us do.
I would add another layer that you can fold up to protect the welder from sparks and grinding dust.

Re: QUICK ALUM TEST
If you want to have some control of your heat input you can try increasing your up- and down slope to a couple of seconds and pulse manually with your torch switch. When it starts to get too hot release trigger and current will decrease slowly. Hit it again when its getting colder. Used this method ...

For easy access make the legs like a "tilted H". Like on a desk that can be raised and lowered. Hey, why not use such chassis then you can easily alter height as it fits you best.

Sorry , forgot the new Stahlwerk looks more like BenRoyal than Jasic, maybe its still the same underneath.
Funny when you mention it, I have never tried to stick weld on my Parweld tig. Have to try that to see how it behaves

Hi Cant comment on details but Stahlwerk is sold under differnt names. Look for Jasic welders and you will find similar machines. Jasic replacement boards are available, freight from china are sometimes cheaper than within Europe if you get problems and want to repair by your own. I use Parweld, chi...

I like it, metal and wood is always a good combination. Take your wife out MORE, gives you more time in the workshop ;) My wife found a big metal dragon fly in australia. If you have a good quality wood saw it would do just fine with this kind of blades. It takes more torque to cut metal so bearings and motor need to be up to it. I run a 185 mm Evo blade in a Bosch circular saw and its great. The thing with the Evo Rage2 saw and similar chop saws is that they they ca...

Your torch looks just like my friends. He says the trigger is a little to heavy so the torch wiggles a bit when he start it. Think he modified it to trigger more easily. Something maybe to look for on yours. Its all about the little details

Does anybody know if the steel blade can be used for stainless and how long it would last? I know they have a special blade for ss but also seen somewhere they state it can cut ss. The "Build" blade will degrade quickly after just a few cuts. http://shop.textalk.se/shop/thumbnails/shop/829...

Welcome You did a good repair. I did a similar repair on a Volvo engine block a while ago so I know the effort it takes to do it under 200 amps. On pic 6 it looks like it didnt melt thru. Hope it wont take any load cus that gives massive stress concentration. I barely could get a 9 torch in and had ...

You can order the Parweld torch with a plug, about 32 different to choose from http://www.parweld.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/Pro-Grip_How_to_Order.pdf My latest came with the new welder with the correct 14-pin socket, the other ones I simply cut off and added the plug that fitted the welder. Since you are from UK I would recommend you to look at Parweld torches http://www.parweld.co.uk/product-catego ... g-torches/
I have their 9- 20- and 26-torch. You can easily put on the connector that fits your welder to any of them.

Re: Why thick jumper cable is used for welding?
Are you referring to an inverter welder? Those have much smaller transformers compared to a traditional transformer welder. The 50-60 Hz input is modulated into high frequency before going into the transformer. Hi freq can be put thru a smaller transformer hence the thinner wire (secondary is always...
