Help with collet dimensions

Could someone please measure a WP9 collet where it goes into the back cap. collet.jpg I got some delivered today and they are little large so they dont slip into the back cap properly. I didnt test them but I doubt the cap will seal. I was under the assumption a WP9 collet would have the same dimens...

Re: Evolution Rage 2

Is your base cast or pressed plate? Mine is an early model (serial #32) with the cast base. I dont like the clamping either but I've heard people buying the ptessed one saying it has way too much flex. Youre right about the blades, cuts clean, cold and FAST. Just bware of the chips, those are blue w...

this is not a welding question but i am interested how you were able to make such nice curved corners on the bottom and lid of the aluminum torch case? craig About the same method as in the later posts in this thread: http://forum.weldingtipsandtricks.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5505#p35702 but wor...

Re: Various welding projects

I used a mdf form with routed edges to hammer the lids on.
The torch and the flame was pressed using a steel die and rubber.
Have about 30 hours in it

Last week was too hot to be outside so I took some time in the garage making a shop stool IMG141.jpg Using copper wire instead of a ground clamp is a great tip I learned here (or from one of Jody's videos), thanks whoever came up with it. Not any welding here, just wanted to show a box I made for my gas torches. Made in 1,5mm aluminum with stainless handle and hatch. Once again, I could by a cheap box but what do one learn from that? Re: Various welding projects

I never liked the magnetic torch holders but I have a bad habit of stepping on the hose and dropping the torch on the floor  so I made a somple torch holder where I can just drop the torch and lift almost without looking at it. Havent broken a single gas cap since I made it. Just two 1/4"...

Various welding projects

I'll start with the "mandatory" cart that probablty is one of the first welding project for most beginners. Made this one for my first tig and later modified it to fit my new welder that was slightly larger. Some people told me I could buy a cart for 100$ but as I said, what fun or challen...

Re: Spot Weld Tig

I had a spot weld setting om my older GYS tig, meant more or less that up- and downslope was removed. The idea is to clamp the sheets tight and hit it with high current so the first sheet melts and fuses with the second layer. I found it easier to punch a hole and plug weld with a little bit of fill...

Re: MIG vs. TIG or MIG & TIG

MIG/MAG is never a bad choice for what us hobbyists do in general.

One advantage with the TIG worth to mention is that it is almost spatter free meaning you can weld in areas or around sensitive things where a mig would be out of the question without shielding the area completely.

Re: Opinion on this welding technique?

That is common when butt welding body panels with mag to reduce heat shrinkage and to overcome variations in gap. If done correct you will have 100% penetration and very little build-up. I have done repairs this way that passed road-worthy inspection with a smile on the inspectors face afterwards. F...

Re: sleeving a 90 degree joint?

I agree with the others but you can use a square profile , hollow or solid, and insert from one direction. That wil give same support but much easier with only straight cuts.

Sorry for late reply Richard but I didnt have any photos so I went out today to get some. You are right, the routed part is the back side but there is no need for a mirror part. In this case I will use a form with a 32 mm hole and 3 mm rad. Suitable holesaw for this is 25 mm. IMG117.jpg Center the d...
