I did it!!!!!!

It's been a long and rough last couple months for me. I have a background of 14 years in the machine/welding shop for the AF. I never had a problem with the aircraft welding cert. Fast forward to the civilian world. I was never formally trained in mig welding. To be honest alot of what I learned I l...

Re: mig welding test

Steve thanks, I was worried the overhead didn't have enough cap on it. For some reason I started getting bad porosity come to find out I wasn't holding the arc short enough. They do have great penetration. I gapped them around 3/16 and burned it in real good. We will see. :)

Re: mig welding test

I noticed the sheet of recommendations had something about "pulse" (it wasn't a WPS) I started reading the machine settings owners manual. After running a few beads really hot 30/440. I switched the machine over to pulse. It welds alot better now but I cut one of the coupons and I'm not ge...

Re: aluminum test

Alexa, No I don't know. Warpage is a PITA on this particular coupon. I literally had to clamp the test coupons down and put tacks all over. Then I was dealing with the gap closing. I'm gonna weld it up monday and I think I've got it. The knife edge was the trick, no landing at all! Now I'm wondering...

Re: mig welding test

I have a WPS but i had to fill it out myself. They then made corrections and sent it back to me. The difference was the the amperage and wire were bumped up. When I try welding to their specks the weld litterally falls off when welding in the overhead position. That tells me I'm not going fast enoug...
