Re: Old buzzbox

When I go Jeeping I take my HD jumper cables, 1lb of 3/16" 6011, gloves and Helmet so we can weld on the trails. I prefer 3 batteries and never have a problems with others bringing their jumper cables to link it all together. There are some expensive Welder AC kits for vehicles but for quick re...

Re: Weld Looks Awful

Both Hobart and Lincoln have training material (some free some cheap) with sample welds and causes. Very useful to compare your welds with theirs and figure out the problem.

Re: US Forge electrodes

I have tried some and the exact opposite results, sticking spatter, poor arc control.
I have A/C only and the Lincoln rods seem the best by far. Hobart is good.
Turn out Lowes is carrying Lincoln again so I am in welders heaven.

Re: Any good single phase stick welders for the back yard?

115 seems to be only good for small project not hours. I am a Jeeper and we have community with all kinds of mods we make. At least from that perspective a cheap 115 welder is well cheap. Hard to control to get a good weld, not enough power for much past 1/8 to 1/8 . Most come with 15% duty cycle. A...

More overhead trouble

Trying to add side rails to my Jeep. The rails are 3/16" Been trying to weld to body sheet metal. I have an old inductor Marquette A/C box (pick current by moving the lead position to a different hole). I have tried 6013 3/32, 1/8 7018 1/8 at different current settings, rod angle etc. Seems to ...

Re: BURN THRU

I bought a cheap HF copper spoon and clamp on the end when I do not want to grind away extra metal or get burn through.

Re: Rod Difference

As an amateur I love the Lincoln rods just cant get them around here anymore, Hobart is #2 and is what available. The cheap HF or other is not worth the money or effort to make work.
