Re: Help with fitment (45 degree cuts)
For those interested I have converted most of my vises to air. Anything that moves can not be accurate and may be dangerous. I make most of my actuators from short stroke truck air brake chambers. Shop has lots of air. Simple gate valve turns air on and off. When something starts to move in any conv...

Re: How do you organize your drills ?
Mine is a similar solution to Micks. I had a salesman show up trying to sell me plastic lumber for truck decks. He had a sample with him maybe 2 ft long 12" wide and about 2" thick. He said he wanted me to "try it" to see if it would work for me ;) . I had no idea how a 2 ft piec...

Re: Noob made a welding table, and has question
Your table looks mobile and useful. I have a question for those that may have been down this road before me. I have a project of small parts to be put together (mig welded) I tend to be fussy and prefer to do much of the tacking myself letting others finish welding as time and sometimes equipment av...

http://www.harborfreight.com/pipe-tubing-notcher-42324.html This little jig might be of interest to some of you. They are not as accurate as one might like and some out of the box need a little setup work to get them dialed in. Depending on the size of material being used and the degree of accuracy ...

Re: New product idea
Messing with the high pressure of the gas bottle or being successful in making a longer adapter to attain the clearance you want may not be the safest solution. Have you thought about being able to extend just the tap handle portion vertically. I have an old propane bottle (tap) handle that has solv...

Re: Forklift fork repair
In Canada we must have an annual safety inspection on forklift equipment. Any bent forks or excessive wear will not meet the safety inspection. I have not had the experience but blowing a hole in the end of a fork to put a bolt or trailer hitch ball in can disqualify a safety. Welds or evidence of h...

Re: Dillon Henrob Cobra (gas torch) videos
I have had a Henrob torch for about 15 yrs. I find the help in my shop do not make good use of the torch as they have not taken the time to relearn torch setup skills. It has its place and was much more in demand before plasma cutting and spool guns for aluminum. Great range of capabilities from wel...

Re: MIG repair on an exhaust manifold?
An after thought to Steve S post ...unless you have a very large heavy defuser on the exhaust side of the turbo you might consider remounting with stainless bolts, no future rust issues. Just remember stainless bolts are often just grade three soft bolts, easy to drill and easy to twist off as well,...

Re: MIG repair on an exhaust manifold?
I agree with heat being a solution to freeing rust corrosion. Your observation that the previous attempt to drill was none too accurate would lead me to suggest that rather than any attempt to weld full and re drill might be better suited to placing a flat washer similar or smaller in size as direct...

Re: Are cattle chutes pattented?
Livestock handling equipment needs to keep you safe and the animal secure with limited stress. There is a big difference in the operational efficiency of some equipment by both design and function. So as not to sound like an armchair expert you might google the name Temple Grandin. Her work and insi...

Re: my next Project
My first pipe "manual" bending die was half a shive (approx 7/8 x 8") from a an old cable drag line. The die later migrated to a press and still gets used from time to time.Yes the sand trick and lots of lube works well to achieve closer to mandrel quality bends. Not sure this will gi...
