Re: What Machine to Buy?

Thanks for the favorable review. I told him about the 211 and I think that is going to be his choice. He is having the wiring done in his garage this week. Any special power needs? I told him 50 amps should be plenty for this machine. I run my 2 welders on a 50 amp breaker and have never had a prob...

Re: What Machine to Buy?

Take a look at the thread in this forum titled "Your .03 Worth" same/similar question I was just looking at the Tweco Fabricator 211 ....man what a deal! I have good machines and I have no complaints but OMG I almost want to buy one just because they are great machines at an awesome price...

Re: MillerBobcat 225 cart.

I find it very interesting, that Miller has that design. They and you know more than me about that. haha But, it seems to me, with 5 inch wide tubing, my idea would be better. I just thing it interesting, that they have nothing in the middle. BUT, it is for the location of the bars in the middle. I...

Re: MillerBobcat 225 cart.

I think if it was me, I'd just build the Miller base, using your material, and put the two fixed wheels on the generator end, and two of the swivel wheels on the control end and call it good. With the wheels at the ends of the stringers, the wheel in the middle seems like overkill to me. Not sure I'...

Re: MillerBobcat 225 cart.

Here's a pic of the base I built for mine when I had it mounted on my utility trailer, before I put it on a dedicated trailer. The base is built to the Miller drawing, except I added 6" to each end, so I'd have easy access to the bolt holes. It's built from 3" X 1 1/2" channel. Since ...

Re: MillerBobcat 225 cart.

I have my Bobcat 225 on a trailer, so I can't really give any advice on the dimensions for a cart that sounds like you'll be using around the shop. However, one thing to be careful of with the Bobcats...in the manual there's a drawing of the recommended base for mounting the rig in a trailer or on a...

Can't you get an element that has integral feed-through insulators as part of the mounting block?

Probably because it's made in China rather than Appleton Wisconsin or Cleveland Ohio. However, regardless of where it's made -- mine works just fine. I don't think you can beat it for the money. In all honesty, it might not be the machine I eventually settle on, but for this point in my TIG experien...

Re: Different measuring device discussion.

That Smart Tool is a good looking device. Bit pricier than the digital level that I use at work for aligning our 32" telescope to zenith. When it's time to do polar alignment on the scope, I forget about the digital and use a machinist's level that's accurate to, if I remember right, 0.0005&quo...

Re: Different measuring device discussion.

Determining what is the "proper tool for the job" depends entirely on what the job is. Many times a torpedo level is the right tool, sometimes you might need a transit or a laser level or maybe just a longer bubble level. Tell us a bit more about what you're working on and I'll bet somebod...

Re: ESAB Rebel Vs Lincoln Power MIg 210MP

I can't help you with a comparison on your welders, since my multi-process machine is a Tweco Fabricator 211i. Great machine, love it. I recently got a Hypertherm Powermax 30 Air plasma cutter and it's the neatest thing since sliced bread. It's got the internal compressor, so I'm not tied to the sho...

Re: Recommendations for good machine

I have a Tweco Fabricator 211i that I really like. Great arc on GMAW and SMAW. Haven't tried the lift arc TIG yet, since I haven't needed it. Don't know how it does on 6010, but AKWeldshop has one and may have burned some 6010. One of the things I like about the machine is that it takes 12" spo...

Re: Newbie wants some info about my Chinese beast.

Thanks a lot Sandow. I have been trying to find a manual for the thing for a while and it's just been sitting there. Does anyone have a suggestion for what gauge cable to wire it up too? I am a capable mechanic and I'm not worried about connecting a plug to it now that I finally have a manual. The ...

Yep, he's right. I run cheaters in my Miller Digital and it makes all the difference. Only about $9 at the LWS. Well worth it for the improvement in your welding.

One of those LED headlamps with an elastic headband? Maybe take off the elastic and stick some velcro to the lamp and your helmet.

Welder bias in the oil field

If some of you pipe welders can enlighten me, I'd appreciate it. What is the reason (or reasons) for the bias in favor of Lincoln over Miller in the oil patch? I know it exists, but I've never heard why.
