Re: 6010 vs 6011

Not intending to hijack the thread...it's still about 6010s. What is the characteristic of 6010 rods that cause some inverter machines to not like to run them? I'd like to know as well......i have a lot of trouble starting/re-starting with 6010 over 6011....I find 6011 runs a lot easier on my magma...

Re: Need tips on pipe on a handrail!

If the joints are going to be over a post, no problem. If they're going to be mid-span, I might think about inserting an tube inside the splice. Like is done in aircraft fuselage work. From your picture, the tube doesn't look that thick.

Re: Anybody tried and arc pig??

If it makes anyone feel better I had no idea what an arc pig was. I also did not get the impression anyone was being snobby or rude. I'd never heard of the device either. Had time this morning to go to their website and check it out. My TIG machine has HF and I don't have trouble starting an arc wi...

Being a new TIGger, I'd like to see some content on tungsten grinding -- how the tip affects the arc, grinds for different materials, etc. Also a comparison/review of tungsten grinders.

Re: Need Manufacturers Names

Gary, if I remember right (it's possible), Jody had a video quite a while back in which he made a bending die for use in a hydraulic press. Can't remember if that was the main focus of the video or just incidental. You sound like you may be looking for something more automated than that.

A couple little tidbits on this one.... ... 3. Electricity flows from positive to negative by the path of least resistance. ... Just a little clarification here. Traditional electrical theory explains a circuit as if the current flows from positive to negative. However, the actual electron flow is ...

Re: Two grounds on the same work piece.

I can't see where it'd be a problem. It's just one side of the circuit, and it take two sides to make a complete circuit. One shop I worked in, we'd have two machines grounded to the same workpiece and two guys welding on it at the same time. No issues. These were, as in Len's case, transformer mach...

In this case, space aliens and their alleged vehicles. We had a UFO event a few years back. Well, some folks said they did, the rest of us didn't. I was at Comanche Peak power plant in Glen Rose once and they suggested I go to Stephenville to get a tire fixed, I told them I had heard of the UFO sighting there on late night radio and I had no intention of returning to my own planet just yet and asked if there was anywhere else. They didn't fin...

I was working with the Miller 252 at work yesterday and while a co-worker was welding the output voltage was varying half a volt or so either way. No big deal. It's normal.

Re: new - splatter everywhere

Are you sure your polarity is right? You want electrode negative for flux core and electrode positive for solid wire. Many machines come set up for solid wire and you'll need to reverse the polarity for flux core. Generally, you just reverse two leads on the terminals near the drive rolls.

tig_practice_c.jpg Finally got the chance, between MIGging up a display rack, and installing a new show in the planetarium, to get back to another, maybe, 30 minutes of practice on my AHP AlphaTIG 200X. On his YouTube channel, not surprisingly also named Welding Tips and Tricks :D , Jody has a 5 video series about building a welding cart. His was for a TIG machine, but you can probably get some useful ideas from it. Just go to "Playlists" and look for "Welding Cart Project".

Phoenix, It looks like the PowerMig 210 MP might be the way to go. I think there was a review of this welder on here (Maybe Xwrench) from not too long ago. Re: Stick welding machine limits.

I tend toward the empirical school of research, so I've always just welded until the overtemp breaker triggered. Haven't harmed a welder yet. When it cools off, it'll weld again. No problem. I somewhat agree, only because not all machines are set-up with the same safety margin with regards to the O...

I've never owned a hose reel, nor have I ever worked in a shop that had one. I just wrap the hoses up on the bottle cart, or build an arm for them to coil over in the shop. On a truck an old wheel can be welded or bolted up to hold them. I figure save the two hundred bucks and apply it toward more e...
