Re: How to get good Arc video?
I've thought about just putting up a post that says, "Jody, how the heck do you get those great arc shots?", but there's a problem with that. There's a lot more pride in figuring it out yourself, so asking is kinda like asking the magician "How did you turn that girl into a rabbit?&qu...

I hope they can get it shut down soon. I've been way too close to several wildfires in my life, and the devastation they leave is a terrible thing to see.

Re: 316l Electrode questions + others
I'll guarantee you that you're not getting full voltage out at the shop. Even if the circuit was run with 12 AWG, appropriate for the 20 amp breaker, at that distance and trying to pull full current you'll have serious voltage drop. If it can be done, I'd suggest upgrading the wiring. 220 is now in...

Another one with the fusion tacks is the 2-part playlist for the compressor belt guard.

The guy I'm doing the carport caper for is a dear friend who I would help out no matter what. Whether he bought tasty beverages or not. When I said "working for beer" in my earlier post, it was just to point out that gear (at least in my experience) breaks more often on unpaid jobs than on...

exnailpounder,
What is the size of that table top, please? You've inspired me to start planning a similar project and your table top looks very well proportioned.
Thanks,
LDB

Re: Recommended Generator for Small 120 Volt
20 amps * 120 volts = 2400 volt-amps. That's roughly equivalent to 2400 watts depending on the power factor, which we don't know. I'd use a minimum 5000 watt generator, just to make sure you're getting full output and not overheating the welder.

Improvise. Adapt. Overcome. Went to Tractor Supply and didn't feel like spending a C-note for a new regulator, so I went to the shop at work and borrowed the O2 reg off the torch set there. Sounds like you've invented a new zero-labor weld prep protocol for stainless. :D Nicely done! Glad you at least got to finish your project. Folks who use up your supplies and don't replace them should be severely punished. And leaving one lone rod in the can is punishable by hanging in some shops, ...

Can't think of a better excuse to buy a plasma to plug into the bobcat :D I'd stopped at the LWS on the way home from work yesterday (it's on the way as is my local gun shop...can make going home pretty expensive), and drooled over a Hypertherm Powermax 45. Have to figure out if my little 6 gallon ...

I used to tell friends that my services would cost about $1,500 per day - or they could buy the beer. Most of them paid the money .... it was cheaper! Just a question: Did that Bobcat have a stick welder capability? One more question: Did you "happen" to have the broken part to get the be...

Re: Tig and Mig combanation machines Miller 212 or 200
I've not welded with it, but a friend of mine who's a maintenance engineer for a big pet food plant uses a Millermatic 200 on the job and loves it. He's got all the modes (almost) in one small, lightweight box. It's easy to transport and does a good job. Downside is no AC TIG, so no Al welding. If y...

I had intended to be able to contribute today, for the first time, to the "What I welded today, stick section!" postings. But fate intervened. After breakfast with my fellow members of the local amateur radio club, a monthly event we call "Hams and Eggs" :D , I headed with Bobcat...

OK, I'm puzzled...
I was prowling around over on Amazon and found this. I immediately got to wondering WTH is it? Don't believe I've ever heard of a Bobcat 225 Carbon Dioxide Engine Driven Welder / Generator It says Bobcat 225, but the controls look more like a Bobcat 250 to me. My 225 only has a mode switch and a cur...

Two things in life I've never regretted: 1> Buying equipment with more capability than I may need at the present. It's going in a 2000 tj sport Neat project. I had a '56 & a '57 CJ-5 years back and always wanted to convert one to diesel. Sold 'em both before a decent engine came along. But the vehicle that I'll always regret not having kept until the right engine (and the right amount of money) showed up, ...

Re: rewiring welder
Did you use real "welding" cable, or just some stranded THHN from Lowes? If you used plain ol' THHN stranded, I'm guessing you might not be getting enough compression in the crimp connectors, or the screw connections in the electrode holder and ground clamp to carry the welding current. In...
