Damnit.
I'm about as clear as mud lately.
CAN I GET THIS BOTTLE FILLED WITH ARGON, OR CAN I EXCHANGE IT FOR ANOTHER THAT IS FULL OF ARGON? lol (caps for clarity. I promise I'm not e-screaming)

Re: CO2 tank
Thanks for the heads up! I will check for a stamp. What I meant was that I want to do more tig work than anything else. Sorry for being unclear, that was the last thing I typed before bed this morning lol That is really interesting about the valve, I can see how that could be a problem at hospitals.

Re: CO2 tank
Thanks, y'all! This is really encouraging! I understand that inert shielding gasses all use the same steel bottles, I wonder if the same is true for aluminum cylinders. I want to use more argon than co2. Although, it would be neat to do some dual shield fcaw if I got a gas solenoid for my little Lin...

CO2 tank
I got an aluminum CO2 tank on a trade for my last job. It is made of aluminum and says "20#CO2" on it with some date stamps that I don't know how to read and other markings. Will this work with a welder and welding regulator? I have only ever used steel bottles. It seems to have been made ...

Re: Need a little advice
Well, the job is done. Had to do some "ghetto metal fab" but I got it done without blowing up. Here is what I am thinking: 1. I'm not doing this for a living. I have my big welding job that pays for the family, and it has insurance, etc. covered. Side jobs are what I use to perpetuate my a...

Re: Toxic Fab 1" TiCup set
Question that I have is, why would I do this when they're $3.64 from Weldfabulous. Len It's a problem I have. I'm a compulsive, serial DIY'er. It would be cool to have a lathe. I saw some folks turning their drill presses into one, but I think it was more for wood turning, where you use the tools i...

Re: Toxic Fab 1" TiCup set
From what I can tell, what ToxicFab did is watched Jodi's video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=9-mnZ2oyCxM) where Jodi gives the CNI part number, orders a box of them for 300$ then stamps out circular sintered wire mesh screens (probably from http://www.lawrencesintere...

Re: Need a little advice
I guess this "learning experience" has a lesson or two in it. I think I need to come up with an actual way to quote jobs. Anyone care to share their formula? I was told that triple the material cost is a starting point, but sometimes even that seems pretty low... I'm thinking maybe double ...

Re: Need a little advice
Thanks for the replies, y'all.
I decided to go ahead and do it. It's not like I have regular side work, I just take an odd job every few weeks to stay busy. Mostly I was worried about blowing myself up, but that didn't happen. Lesson learned: don't quote or take a job until you see it.

Oh no lol he intends to use it for waste oil. I wouldn't do any actual pressure vessel work.plain ol Bill wrote:I assume your customer expects to put propane back into the tank? Propane tanks are an ASME pressure vessel. Butt joints NOT acceptable. Unqualified welders not acceptable.

I got a side gig that I'm losing money on. The guy wants me to cut holes in a 500 gallon propane tank and Weld two pipes in. We filled it with water and used a grinder to cut a hole in the bottom, that took two hours. Now I'm n3eding to borrow a torch from someone. I'm having some big time second th...

Arc Welded Projects, Vol. 2
Picked up this book off of Amazon for $9.50 shipped after seeing it at the used bookstore for $15. It is published by the James Lincoln Arc Welding Foundation, the same ones that publish Metals and How to Weld Them. I got.Vol. 2 because it has more projects than the other 4 booms for the.same price....

Re: Caution Tig Welding leads to collecting parts
we could make a purge room to weld in. Entire projects could be done in an inert atmosphere with a type of space suit for ppg. I have daydreamed about this before. And welding in space. Space welding would be so cool. You know, SpaceX is gonna need a welder or three when they go to Mars... Rocketsu...

DIY (scrapyard) press brake
I decided to start another thread, since the first one got kinda long and lost. Here's what I ended up with: IMG_20150615_131534.jpg The bottom right photo shows a kinda cross-section of how I have the dies layed out inside their guides I used the small bits that I had to cut off to make them fit. Anyone have anything to say about these courses?

The metallurgy one is what I'm mostly interested in, but if anyone has info on the other courses, I'm sure we would all be interested in hearing your experience.

How much? I'm not a serious buyer at the moment, but I am interested in knowing about these types of things, as I hope to one day be a serious buyer. Is this similar to the Lincoln pulse pendants? Also, is that foot pedal connected with an Ethernet cable?

We use the 9100FX adflo at work. Its a pretty badass hood, but I hear the replacement lens covers are expensive, and I use a bunch of em. Like any hood, it is hard to see through a burned up lens cover. When the adfli battery dies, it gets hot in there really fast. I love the fr cover over the back ...
