Got this setup right now, and that original part is hard as HELL to get apart. What's the trick to doing this without breaking everything??

Re: Pipe newb, where do I start?

I'm posting updates here to ask for advice and so that I can keep notes for myself as well. Got my first ever pipe root made. Same pipe I mentioned in the last post. I need to make a testing stand. I beveled it out with about a 1/16" gap. I think that's 1.6mm for our metric-minded friends. Wasn...

Update: Went to the scrap yard today. Took my boy out and he had a great time stomping puddles and asking what each and every thing was lol. They had some 7", 8", and some 4" heavy wall, but no 6". It was all $6-$7/ foot!!! Wow, mucho expensive. So I got some 2-5/16" OD 1/4&...

I like this rod. I think I have a crush on this rod. Pointers and tips appreciated, I know it ain't perfect, but I really like it so far. That raining fire is the perfect therapy.

I love the anthill castings! I think that idea would work well here, where fire ants will dig in clay, making a very solid casting medium. Flushing out the casting from the hard clay may be a challenge, though. Steve S They put about 40 hours into big ones. They mount em on exotic wood bases and fa...

... What was your cleaning procedure after that dpt? I was grinding through about 7/16, so I would grind a bit, and DP again to be sure I was following the damage all the way through. Between stages, I just wiped up the excess developer and kept grinding. When it was time to weld, I used first the ...

I agree, do not whip out of the puddle - not designed for that.

But the amps I respectfully disagree - 125 amp minimum for me - personal preference :)
I was thinking the same thing. I like mine about 135.

I used to work at a refrigerator mfg plant that made fridges for no less than 7 different name brands. All went down the same line made by the same people. Re: TIG parts

I have tried torch heads from River weld. They are alright as long as you stay within stated current limits. Avoid the cheap collets, dont last long. Gas lenses are good. Ceramics, no complaints. All based on my own experience. A full time production welder might think different Never heard of Park...

TIG parts

I remember the review someone gave of Chinese "bulk" TIG parts kits, but was wondering if anyone had experience with the Chinese TIG torch heads. I got to looking and they are like ten bucks for a WP9V torch head on ebay, where actual weldcraft heads are $60+. Yeah, I'd like weldcraft, but...

Hey Nathan, I actually used a lincoln 225/125 machine Saturday. Burned 1/2 of a 1/8" 6010, and 1/2 of a 3/32" 7018. Welded a little part at a friends shop. Both at 95amps. Dc. Welded nice as any machine. Nobody really needs dig, it's just nice to have once in a while. John Awesome! I have...

A little off topic but how do your students practice? At a bench, clean metal etc? I was in a class once doing pipe welding and the young welder in the booth behind kept saying how easy this was... I leaned over and told him yes this is easy, were sitting at a bench with test coupons. Real world is...

I start with a 6010 about 60 on the dig and 7018 around 10. Then I adjust from there depending on how much crap I couldn't grind off of the base metal or what I need the weld to look like. If you have never played with your dig setting before run a few beads with whatever rod you have on the low en...

Check craigslist religiously. I saw an AC/DC Lincoln like mine go for $50 this week! Wish I had got it, but mine only cost me $175. Sometimes I see em around the $200 range, but usually $350. The AC DC idealarcs go cheap a lot too because nobody knows that they are awesome.

What's "dig?" And "arc force?" My Lincoln doesn't have these settings. I know its not a fancy machine, but are the AC/DC 225/125's more suited to a certain rod? It's not often I wander to the stick forum, cause we use mig and tig at work, but now that I'm welding with my machines...

Teflon tape is for pipe fittings. Anything else will cause problems. So, what do ii use for a leaky torch connection? I was going to put it on the gas line where it connects to the reg and where it connects to the power block. Not where the torch connects to the power block though, because that is ...
