Re: Another "Leak hunt"

Steve, While I was still a driver I hated those Cryenco trailers because they were all hydraulic and the hydropac on the trucks would get cold in the winter and would barely unload the traier. When it's below zero, the last thing you need is something causing you to be outside any longer than need b...

Re: Want to Start TIG, Need Help

Jay, Miles of welds are being done out in the field everyday with the regular electrode clamped onto the brass lug that's shown in the link AFSATCOM posted. I do it on a regular basis at work with a welder that's as old or older than the one you are trying to use. It will weld everything but Aluminu...

Even I can't guess the model of the trailer from that picture. But I'm quite sure who the customer is. :D

The company I work for had a listing for welders at what seems to be a new plant in Palmetto, Fla.

Check on their website airproducts.com under careers.

Re: whats the best water cooler

We have a couple coolers on old Air Products welders at work that are at least 40 or 50 years old and I've never known them to have a single problem in the 17 years I've been there. Believe it or not we use recycled antifreeze from the trucks and always have. To my knowledge it's never ruined a torc...

Re: SMAW Aluminum

My neighbor while I was growing up was the only person I've ever seen that could weld with a stick Aluminum rod and make it look nice. I'm not sure though if he was a wizard or a welder, because he could also weld pot metal and make it nice, maybe an Alchemist.

Re: Scratch start on AC?

Zach, As Mick has said, short answer would be no. But I have heard that on an inverter welder that the HF is only used to start the arc then shuts off even when welding in AC mode. I'm no expert on inverters but I did hear this mentioned on a video about a Dynasty 350 that was put out on youtube by ...

Re: Lincoln 180 CRAZY wire feed problem

Normally they are a gun of fair quality, and I would replace it with a in-kind replacement. I'm not an expert on mig welders but I too have the same welder and have great luck with it. But I don't have experience with a lot of other guns, as I've only ever welded with one other mig welder, which was...

Re: Lincoln 180 CRAZY wire feed problem

Esteban, It sounds like there's a bare wire in the gun that completes the circuit to the wire feed motor when you raise the gun. Sometimes weld splatter will melt it's way into the coating and cause all kinds of weird things to happen. The guns that come with that welder are fairly cheap and most we...

Not the person to answer mig questions, but I'm hoping your talking about .052 and not 0.52 like you posted. Half inch wire would have to be fed off a spool on the back of a truck  Lots of great mig welders here to answer your question though. They'll be soon to answer. Nice to have you here an...

Re: 309 for ole mild steel

@Steve, The first one that cracks will be the only one you'll get (blame) credit for. The use of Cor-Ten in buildings started as early as the 70"s, if not before. I know that at different times painting it has caused it to fail because the oxidation wasn't allowed to form and it rusted from wit...

Re: 309 for ole mild steel

@Steve, Are the outer tanks made of Cor-Ten on a cryo trailer? I live about ten miles from the first building ever built out of Cor-Ten and about 25 miles from the US Steel building, also made from it. I've delivered to the one closest to home but didn't take note if anything was welded or not. I ha...

Re: 309 for ole mild steel

John, It normally sells for around $15-20 a lb. and yes you can weld non-spec welds on mild steel with it. It works nice on cheap chinese steel where ER70s-2 and s-6 bring up a lot of porosity. I use it quite often when I need to weld carbon to stainless. It seems to be pretty forgiving when it's im...

Re: Cup seems off-center on torch?

TT, Look straight down at the tungsten from the end and loosen the cup and see if it stays straight as you loosen it. If it does do the same thing with the collet body. Whichever one is crooked will not not be concentric as you loosen it. It's more likely it's the collet body. Either way there's no ...

@Steve,

I look forward to seeing the pictures.

So busy with my son's rehab I forget what the inside of my garage at home looks like. He's walking on his high dollar stick and should get to come home tomorrow, then out patient therapy for six more days. Christmas may come to our home after all.
