Re: Glove or not
Paul, I too wear the thin goatskin gloves, but I get them for free at work. I take the old gloves home when they're getting a little tattered and use them in my shop at home. He's right about the UV rays and if you weld Aluminum without gloves or sleeves you will get a nasty sunburn type burn, been ...

There's always the trusty Tig Finger. Gotta support the big guy so we can keep swappin' bull. Filling each others heads with more dross. Besides shaking gives the weld a little character.

Re: Harbor Freight Inverter for Tig?
Well before our trip to three different doctors today, I stopped by HF and bought one and a 10 gauge extension cord. Then had to drive an hour each way to one of our satellite plants to do two minutes work, no rest for the wicked. I'll try to get a chance to try it tomorrow night and report back. I ...

Re: Harbor Freight Inverter for Tig?
When the PM comes out to test the deluge system they always put it in my mail slot because they say I'm the only one who gives it an actual test, no mock drills for me. I had a saying for a while "if you're not getting wet, I'm not welding". Hey, the bright side is you don't need a second ...

Re: e3 electrodes
Paul, Not sure what the Cigweld machine is but the Everlast is an inverter welder and you can definitely use Lanthanated or Ceriated tungsten with it. These should be readily available in your area. The site tat WerkSpace referenced has a list of almost all the major players in the welding world. Th...

Re: Harbor Freight Inverter for Tig?
@Steve, Yes, they are throughout the plant and they work suprisingly well. Every once in a while a small roof leak onto a heat exchanger will set them off when it steams off. Doesn't set the deluge system off it you clear the alarm in time. My old shop was in the one eend of the plant and if I forgo...

Re: e3 electrodes
Paul, If you're using a inverter welder there is no good reason that I know of to be using Zirconated, but if you have a transformer welder and you're welding Aluminum then Zirconated would be a good choice. I would think that any of the other blends would be better for DCEN welding for alloys. Agai...

Re: e3 electrodes
Paul, I'm not sure that there is anything that would require you to use E3 that you couldn't weld with 2% Lanth. electrode. I'm guessing that everything that has been welded up to the point that they starting making E3 is still being welded with something else. It's nice electrode and seems to hold ...

Re: Cooking on a welded surface
Rob,
I can't think of anything in the weld deposit once it solidified that would be any more hazardous than the cast iron. Might be a little less non-stick than it used to be, but nothing a few pounds of bacon can't remedy.

The bad part is the plant is located on the top of a hill with nothing to break the wind from any direction, and it seems the wind never completely stops blowing. The good news is I don't have weld at the top of the column all that often. I made some pretty creative wind blocks that have taken way l...

I have almost a 50 year degree in advanced idiotics. I also have a degree in aeronautics, I'm taking up space. I'm putting on some weight so I almost have a degree in advanced aeronautics since I'm taking up more space now.

Thanks WerkSpace and Rake. I should have known you can change the polarity from using my Lincoln 180 Mig welder (I guess I lie about never welding with an inverter) with Flux core. But that answers my general question. Now if they can figure out how to get the wind to stop blowing my cover gas away ...

Harbor Freight Inverter for Tig?
Has anybody tried to use the little inverter 80 amp HF welder to scratch start Tig weld? I was wondering if you can reverse the leads on these and use it. I've never used an inverter DC welder before, since all my welding is done with Noah's hand me down equipment that he used to make the arc. I hav...

Rick,
How does the 3 welders in parallel work? Does that take you to 270 amps? Do you then set each at say 30 amps to get a 90 amp output? Just curious.

Most have this info on their website. You'll have to figure out what brand your local welding store stocks and you usually can pi...

@Steve There's been quite a bit of chatter about gas mixes and I was wondering if this is the case where the addition of Oxygen to the gas may shine. I know very little about the Mig welding side of things, but I'm trying to put together some thoughts on the advantages and disadvantages of certain g...

If I remember right I don't think 1.1.1. is legal to use in the U.S. anymore, or maybe that's just a company policy where I work, not sure. I do know we're not aloud to use it anymore.

Steve,
Quit messin' around and get after it. My liquid sphere has been at or below target refill levels for two monthes now. Lets get that thing on the road. Just kidding, keep up the good work. I can appreciate what you do more than most people and enjoy seeing the pictures.

@Krazziee, Hell if my eyes get much worse I'm going to have to contact the Hubbell people to make me a cheater lens. @SeanM, he was not a all offended by your comment, and kind of got a kick out of it.
