Re: Tungsten build up

T-bone,
Slide your handle back onto the hose and make sure it not leaking in the neck area. That looks like a flex head torch and after enough flexing they sometimes develop a leak there.

Re: Can "better" flow meter save me gas?

They have had that option for years, it's called a valve torch. This would be the most effective way to save gas, but having done the bulk of my welding with a scratch start rig, I can say it's not the most convenient. Anybody who has ever used one can attest to the fact that there still is a gas ru...

Re: wavefront, waveforms, customized wavefroms

Just add welding to your "waveform" search and you should get any number of hits from all the major welding machine manufactures on their different waveforms and how they affect heat input in metals. Thus eliminating or limiting the need for Helium while welding Aluminum. Len P.S. If you g...

Jack, Jody Collier is the founder of this forum and is the one who does all the videos. Click on the video button at the top of the page and pick a video on tig welding. This forum is an offshoot of his YouTube channel, Welding Tips and Tricks .com. Check him out, he's a great guy and great teacher....

Re: Pipe newb, where do I start?

Nathan, You'll be pretty much maxed out on your machine for schedule 80 pipe. As you progress, move down in pipe size. Smaller is harder as was said. Try and aim the torch towards the center of the pipe as you go, this keeps your torch angle pretty good. Jody has a couple of videos I believe on pipe...

Paul,
Check to be sure that you haven't twisted your collet, if you have they can swell out against the pilot and restrict gas flow. CK wedge collets eliminate this problem, check them out, they basically last forever.

Jason,
Welcome to the forum.

If the 200Dx is like the 250EX, then the Balance is counter-intuitive and should be set to around 70 for the balance you're after. I'm no expert on inverter welders but I had a chance to play a little with my son's 250Ex and that was the case.

Jack, Welcome to the forum. Everything you asked about can be done. I'll leave the particulars to those with experience in gun work. Welder selection is going to get you as many opinions as there are members here. You can do most anything you want to do on a gun with a 150 amp DC only tig welder so ...

Re: Let's see pics of your home shop

Sorry Nathan, but I'll take the highjack a little further down the road. The majority of Helium does come the States. They're finding ways to extract it from the Natural Gas and this is increasing the worlds supply. It was extracted from Copper mines previously almost exclusively. We have a plant th...

Raticus, I hope you get fuel perks from Giant Eagle with that thing. We had a 67 Chrysler Newport when I was younger with a 383 in it and it would burn tires off better than any car I ever seen. Problem was after a while I had to go into a 12 step program to get weaned off of the gas pump. I wasn't ...

There is a fine example of picking up gems of knowledge and motivation from an unexpected place. I had no idea when I sat down at my computer this morning that I'd pick up a new way to look at something from a man half my age. The lines that he used in that interview should be taken to heart by anyb...

Re: best way to blend helium to argon

Adam, You can buy an 80cf cylinder ($200 new) and have it filled with whatever non flammable gas or mix that you want. If your local store doesn't fill cylinders you'll need to find one that does. Sometimes with a mix that they don't do they'll send your cylinder out and have it filled. Problem is m...

Re: best way to blend helium to argon

If you have to use a second cylinder, why not just lease a cylinder with the mix you want and save the added cost of a second flow meter and wye fitting. If you own a second cylinder, get it filled with 75/25- Ar/He and then you know that you're getting the mix you want.

Adam, One of the beauties of the Pipeliner is it's simplicity. The head gear is made that way so you can lay on your back and not have the ratchet strap digging into the back of your head. You can get the ratchet headgear and put on it, as some come with it. It's just a simple, old school headgear, ...

I've seen well over 10,000 hrs. On a four cyl. VW diesel that we use to unload cryo trailers. They run @ 4200 rpm's for about an hour @ a time.

Cylinders are not analyzer after filling when you buy industrial grade gases unless it comes with a Certificate of Analysis or a Certificate of Conformance, each of which cost money, and usually about double. If you own the cylinder and get it filled while you wait some places don't take the time to...
