Re: Feathering the toes on a 6G stick weld
That was not a very good photo, I'm working on getting better ones. You can see from that photo that the toes are feathered pretty deep. If its going to fail that would be the place!

Re: Introduction
Steve Don't envy me too much, working on some of this stuff especially the rides made abroad is a real PIA. Sometimes I wonder just who put the rides together, maybe "BoBo the wonder chimp". The ride Mfg's never really had the end user in mind when they designed amusement rides. Sometimes ...

Re: Tungsten for alum.
1.5 or 2% lanthinated is my go to electrode for everything unless the WPS states something else. The only thing i would recommend, prior to going from steel to stainless and steel to aluminum grind the tungsten to remove oxides and impurities from the electrode as to not have cross contamination of ...

Re: Some welding career advice needed
I agree with the consensus, if you are making 6 figures "stick with it Man" pardon the pun. I'm not saying that welding in of itself is not rewarding. I'm sure i speak for the masses and if not pardon me, but if you are already established in a certain trade stay with it, you are getting s...

Re: Can you cut aluminum plate with acetylene torch?
The new "Dual Saws", are great for cutting aluminium plate. I have used one for about a year and have had favorable results. They are inexpensive and usually on sale in a lot of the wearhouse stores, COSTCO, SAMS CLUB, ect. You can cut up to a 1-1/4" plate, the only thing you really n...

Re: Welding hoods
I just bought a Lincoln Viking, I have used a fibermetal hood with a 2x4 flip down lens for years. I really don't know how i lived w/o the newer auto darkening hoods all this time, there is more viewing area, and less head and neck fatigue. I guess as i get older i feel the need for comfort instead ...

Feathering the toes on a 6G stick weld
The boiler in my apartment was recently replaced, the guys who were welding it up left something to be desired to say the least. I few days after the boiler was installed they had another fellow come and just weld up all the steam lines. I noticed he was using a Lincoln Fleetweld 5P+. I believe its ...
