Re: What to charge?

What to do is up to you, your financial situation etc. your not working for him as an employee, but rather as a contractor. Is he supplying wire, torch consumables, electricity? Do you use your machine or his? I'm guessing your supplying those things if your supplying argon. Factor those things in a...

Thank you for the spam sandwich.

I got brave enough to click his link, which all go to the same store, and a filament apparently refers to filler rods.

Looks good so far, only thing I don't like is the bolts through the frame. Are those going to stay. If so they should be a little longer. Or maybe it's the pictures?

At 45 mins a pop I'd bid $50 per piece. If an hour I'd bid $65.

Looks good btw.

Re: A quick question about a rod at school

Around here there are a couple reputable programs at a couple community colleges and of course Lincoln. The cc's that are reputable are related to Lincoln, or have instructors from there part time etc. there are also programs that are just as expensive that are just horrible. It seems everyone wants...

Re: Career Advice

Pound the streets, approach getting a job like its a full time position if your not currently working. When I was laid off I spent 40-50 hrs a week working towards finding work. This could be spending time enhancing your resume, taking a certificate class, volunteering to get some work experience/hi...

NNNOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! If these are for homebuilt aircraft, REJECT THEM! I apologize for missing the purpose. These are, out of hand and without reviewing the specific application, JUNK for aircraft application. If I were building a private sailboat for lake use, I might accept them. If I had 1000' o...

What are these for? I wouldn't be happy if I was paying for welds that looked like that, depending on price.

Re: Having some problems with destructive testing

Well I have been reading every piece of information I can find and it sounds a lot like my voltage is high but what either could be screwing me is wire speed. Cuz from what I understand the more wire you get hitting your work piece the lower your machine will drop the amperage on the downslope so e...

Re: what to wear to a welding job interview?

Might it be a demonstration of good preparedness to ask if you should come prepared for a welding demonstration or a job interview? If expected to demonstrate skills, I would be impressed to see a hire candidate walk through the door with a neat kit containing welding gear. That's why I said to ask...

Re: what to wear to a welding job interview?

The easiest way to know for sure is to ask the hr rep. They will let you know. Inquire about it while asking if there will be a weld test. It's a perfectly normal question to ask, especially given our line of work

Re: What does it take to get in Aerospace welding?

Attitude and work ethic go a long way. We had a guy started on the bench, never tigged before, showed an interest. He would stay late, come in early and pick our brains. We showed him the basics, work sent him to school then we got him certified. Started him off slow and now he's doing all the jobs....

When I hired on I only had my stainless, aluminum, and steel 3f certs, no 17.1's. work trained me because I passed their entrance test. How good of training will depend on where you go, everywhere is different. If you show a passion and eagerness to learn, you will, the right attitude will take you ...

Razor blade welding

Per Jonathan's request here's some pics. Did these this morning not the greatest but was in a hurry. These are the .009" ones, the ones in razor knives are .024. Used my htp invertig 221 set at 12 amps but never used whole peddle. 1/16 tungsten to a point an polished with scotch brite, .023 308...
