Re: First TIG and problem / Question

I had the same problem with 181 thermal arc fabricator , tig setup . I chained my argon to my table which was grounded . But my gas line goes to my torch . So after about 20 minutes I would get porosity in my welds. But it would only be in part of the weld . Once I ungrounded my bottle the problem s...

Re: root pass balling up

I have tried walking the cup but not quite fast enough too walk the cup on root pass while feeding the filler metal but will practice more . Appreciate the feedback.

Re: root pass balling up

Hey , the root pass im referring to is the one in front .The one with excessive penetration was one of a earlier try. Any advice is needed and appreciated . I structural weld but don't see pipe welders too often because I'm at the shop most of the time . So any advice is good. keep welding Waylin

Re: root pass balling up

Thanks for the info on the video . I've watched for the hand positioning and torch angle to help me . I free hand instead of walking the cup . With a gap closer to 1/8 inch I do a lot better. Will try to change variables and send pic. tomorrow. Thanks Waylin

root pass balling up

Hey , I'm doing my tig root pass with 1/8 filler metal and a 5/32 gap .Im feedeing the rod through top of pipe . Im running 80-85 amps and from 6-8 o clock the metal starts balling up . So I went side to side while feeding the rod and the metal balled up and dropped below radius of root pass .What s...

Re: HOW much is too much grinding on root pass ?

i know i took too much metal out and thats where the suck back happened . I also thought of using two stringer hot pass to focus heat on wagon tracks with 3/32 LH at 80-85 amps . I appreciate the feedback because I don't see many pipe welders to get feedback from . But this forum is really useful an...

HOW much is too much grinding on root pass ?

I'm practicing for a 6g pipe test with 2in pipe . My root looks good till I grinded pipe till it was mostly clear of slag . This test will be xrayed so I didn't want to leave any trash . I added my hotpass with 3/32 LH at 83 amps and got suck back and root has undercut on the inside. Could I get awa...
