Re: New to Forum, new to welding, farming on the east coast

The problem with welding forums is they are full of welding junkies.Guys with 8 machines crammed into a one car garage 2 blocks from Walmart. The only thing the majority know about farming is that it is in fact the initial source for the bacon cheeseburgers and the grain for the beer in the fridge. ...

I was using 6010 at about 95 amps...
The only thing I see wrong is you aren't "welding".
"Weld" two pieces of metal together and show both sides after you're done.

Re: Weld 1" square tube, 1/16" wall to 1/8" angle iron.

Cool video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMlwyqUgJj0 Part of the fun of welding steel with gas, is you can see the color temperature of the metal as it heats up. With TIG, the helmet eye shade is a bit too dark to see those nice color tones that cue you to what is going on. I own a MultiPlaz we...

Re: In need of a good helmet!

In China, they do it with style. Now that is funny, especially when you consider the fact that they make all the cheap welding helmets. If I wanted one, I wonder if that helmet comes with a welder or a welder comes with that helmet..... It looks like it has a grind mode too. Just remove the g...

What are the general guidelines for quoting a job for some one? I don't run a shop but when i am home off the road people always seem to have projects or ideas to build something and i have never had a good rule of thumb to price the work. Is there a rule of thumb? In Miami I charged $55/hr plus th...

I must be one of the lucky ones. I can write with either hand, shoot basketball or darts with either hand, etc. Me too. I tell people the easiest way to begin practicing in the modern world is to only use your left hand to run the computer mouse. That gives dexterity and gets rid of the jerky movem...

I'm welding like 5' above where is stand my welder, and as soon as I turn on ...

The difference may not be huge. But those of us who weld quite often or for a living with stick... It is hard to describe in words. For 7018 there is none better than lincoln excalibur. For 6010 lincolns fleetweld series is tops again. Once you move to a more general purpose rod like 7014 or 6013 i...
