Re: How do I prevent blowing out the beginning/end of a weld
Hi guys, I'm new to welding and currently in school. One thing I can't quite get the hang of is finishing a weld from one edge to the other without completely melting the edges when I finish. I think it's because the metal is getting too hot. I've had some luck with lowering the amperage on the end...

Thanks - not really buying anything from them now but I have done as you mentioned in the past - I got most things I need now & I think they are kinda over priced & not as well made as years ago - maybe price stateside is better - most things seem to be - the UK gets ripped off big time on ...

Re: Carbon Arc for brazing copper pipe?
Is it possible to use a carbon arc torch with a regular stick welder to braze copper water pipe? I need something that is flame-free to heat up a copper pipe and then braze it. The only carbon arc torches I've seen are used and cost $150! There's got to be a cheaper solution. The best alternative I...

You said NewB... I say cutoff wheels. Master them because no matter how much fancy your wallet allows for;that disc will always be a must. Make sure you're an expert with them. #2 would be the portaband used hand held. The table is a luxury ....and a crutch. #3 would be an oxyfuel rig. Preferably wit...

I wipe mine down with a little mineral spirits with paste wax dissolved in it.A pint bag of paste wax and about 1/2 pint of varsol. I use the same thing on my shop floors every several weeks. I had a gallon can leak a big glob of John Deere green on the floor the other night. Peeled it right off the...

If yyou have a way to cut it 'properly" ? Buy it and put the word out that you have some with the heavy equipment crowd.Nobody wants a whole sheet but will pay a premium for a piece cut to size, and perhaps drilled, for a dozer/backhoe/track machine repair. You can turn that couple hundred into ...

I ran a bunch of 7018 at about 105 amps.Tank top, shorts, hiking boots, pipeliner helmet and a left handed glove(only one). Been doing it for around 45 years. Lucky I guess.I suppose if I was in the land of d...

Re: how to cut 16 gauge sheet metal
Its a lil heavy for a cheapo air nibbler(if you have air?) and a lil too lite for a jigsaw. Choose the jigsaw. Lay the tin on top of a piece of thin plywood, 1 x 4 crap wood or even drywall and cut away.Vibration is what kills saw blades. PERIOD. Buy a good metal cutting jigsaw blade. The Dewalts at...

For the cost of one of those pieces of shiite I can put receptacles avery six feet from one end of the shop to the other, on both walls, and not have to deal with the battery scam.
