Re: Quality of welds opinions

The bacon fry theory is actually FACT Get a buddy to turn that wire up very slowly as you weld. That spatter will vanish.Wire speed is everything when MIGing.. Even more critical with 100% CO2

Take a deep breath. Let the smoke out slow. #1. Forget using a 110 welder on 3/8 steel. Period. #2. Forget using a 110 welder on 3/8 steel. Period. #3. Go get some 1/8 steel.Leave your machine maxed out. Go weld some 1/8 steel. Penetrated purty good didnit ? Ever took a look inside the door on that ...

You put that P.O.S. on my truck, you'll be removing it and I'll be moving on.
1.5" OD 15 ga is what I use for stuff like that.At least get a cheapo sq. die tubing roller and follow the roof line a lil.

Re: Cutting and notching, angles and all that. Need some hel

I do it a little differently on something like that. Get your angles and cut the pipe as if it were swauare tube, Then go to Lowbuck tools and buy the notcher with the appropriate kit for the tube you'll use.I can bang that rack together in short order with that and some .035 wire in the mig. The on...

Re: Strong hand tools magtab failure....

Well I ran a weld about 3 inches long and the magnet let go... exact temperature only God knows .. And yes the way to harden steel is to heat it to red or better where it passes the nonmagnetic point and then quenching it in some sort of quenching solution to refine the crystalline structures. I ju...

i know that many of you call 'tattoos' in welding are the burns you get, which leave a permanent scar, but this isnt that. i'm at the moment 18,thinking of getting some tattoos in the future,i find them beautiful when done right,so i want to get many, most likely legs, arms and back. and i was wond...

While I'm not a fan of 6013, and refuse to use it, you did one heck of a job! As to be expected, of course. If y'all would quit trying to use 6013 as // " ona them thar dragggin' rodzzz" and hold an arc with the thing you might not hate them so much. You hold an arc and crank it a bit and...

The Makita mounts exactly like the Harbin Fart. Google image for one and build away. It the simplest of them all.

OH Man. Hilco Basic on a gen rig. I prefer to run Basic Super on the bench. Ya ready ? I run it on AC :o Try it. You'll like it. Excaliber is like screwing around with a crappy Snap-On Dual 80 when you could use a Wright. It's a fanboy rod. The Starbux of the iron world. Hobarts are great for bendin...

Re: Why I have never trusted wire welding

I never MIG anything over 1/4-3/8 and don't go after 1/4 with anything less than my MM200.
That said....I love MIG for most stuff. No screwing around, nice and clean. Fast and you can't rip it apart.
Other than roof racks and crap if it goes on a vehicle or real structural item it met up with a 7018.

Accuracy of squareness with either machine would be measured with a feeler gauge. I can cut 10 pieces to on...

Re: Rookie looking for a new welder!

Quick + Strong+ 3/8 puts you over the 200~ish amp area in smaller MIGz. The occasional 3/8 is one thing. Much structural in 3/8 or over puts you in 300 amp territory. Quick, in my world, means 1 pass. Now. If you're like the rest of the planet welding 1/8, 3/16 and 1/4 stuff for columns, brackets, t...

One thjing. When you re-load that machine set it up with .030 wire.035 is better when you screw with 1/4" or better a lot.
You'll see a difference in penetration immediately on stuff like you're messing with.

You can already arc weld some so why not just watch a bunch of videos and start building some crap with the 140 ? Start with the welding cart Jody just did videos on, build some shelves and stuff and you'll get better in better in a fairly short time frame. Better than sitting in a phone booth apply...
