Where's the "demand" & "good pay" I've heard so much about?

Just a little rant here... I've been in between jobs recently (long story; but basically I got laid off against my direct supervisors wishes, while he was on vacation), and I'm just not seeing this demand for welders, or at least decently paid ones, that I hear preached about so much. Before people ...

I've been talking for a while now about wanting to go back to school to get some 6G certs. Awesome video, thank you!

Hmm a not so clever or tactful not so smart ass. Must be a new troll :) P.S. PET(E) is what your clear rod cases are made of ;) WeldDakota! It helped me out and gave some consistently blatant different results. Not night and day, but more like Noon to dusk difference... Yeah, that's about what I'd ...

Re: Thorium

The only good ones I've found (in my opinion) are 2% Thoriated, 2% Lanthanated and Zirconiated (for aluminum). However, if you're THAT concerned about Thorium, look up the MSDS of the fillers and gases you use. Ozone, the fumes from the metal burning, the chemicals in the filler wire, tungsten... no...

Re: Welding Tips & Tricks Podcast

I just binge-listened to 1-6. Great work, guys!! The one about pricing out jobs was very very helpful for me. I want to get into my own side work soon, and eventually my own company full time. But had no clue where to start. Now I feel much more confident in stepping that direction!

Re: scotch briteing tungsten?

When I was doing aerospace, I got into the habit of buffing my tungsten with either a scotchbrite wheel or just a sheet of scotchbrite. I'd always go with the grain, just like sharpening it. Does it really make a difference? At low amps, I'd say it does- at high amps, only if it's really dirty. But,...

I had been looking to add cheaters to one or all of my welding helmets but heard about the CSV and ordered one. Long story short...all my OTHER helmets are for helpers, visitors, onlookers...the CSV is mine! Great improvement over the Harbor Freight, Northern Tool auto-darkeners AND the Pipeliner w...

Re: Listen to this Right!!! Funny

Hi drummerwelder! When I first get my students into my class here at community college, I teach them "hard and fast rules". Then later on, I tell them that it is very likely that where ever they end up working, they will do it differently, so the "hard and fast rules" might get ...

HTP Striker Helmets

Anybody have experience with these? I've heard some good reviews about these helmets, but wanted some more opinions. I'm looking at the CSV mostly, but also kind of interested in the Digital. However, the CSV is the only one with the 1,1,1,1 rating... Can anyone tell me what color the lens is in a d...

Buying a USED Eastwood TIG 200?

Looking at a used Eastwood TIG 200 AC/DC fully loaded on craiglist. To clarify: I've been searching up and down trying to find a decent deal on an old school welder. The seller seems to keep dropping the price, so was going to try and talk him down to $600 with bottle, helmet and filler rod included...

Re: What’s the best NEW AC-DC TIG welder for under $1,500?

Just an update on my Eastwood Tig 200. Eastwood issued a Fedex call tag, and the one was picked up the day after I talked to customer service. A new replace is on the way and Fedex tracking is showing it will be here on tuesday. Eastwood's tech's and customer service were really easy to work with. ...

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u235/musico79/100_0873.jpg I owned a Eastwood AC/DC TIG200 new, bought in November 2011. I personally never had any issues the machine. I did however go through two of their 1pc power/gas hoses. The first one succumbed to heat from high-amperage welding (or weldin...

Re: Eastwood Welders

I was extremely dissatisfied with my Eastwood TIG. I too bought it for a cheap at home unit I could use for learning on and then upgrade later on. I ended up selling it off to my friend for 400 dollars (terrible investment!) and now take everything I want to tig into work and use our old syncrowave...

I have never heard of these welders. I never heard of Everlast until a few months ago and then I bought one and love it. I had an issue with it at first but found out it was a simple fix and they had great service. Here is an Everlast machine for the same price as the Eastwood machine and it does t...

Waste of money, from what I've seen from them. Don't like high amps at all for 3/32". I'd stick to Lanthanated/Thoriated.

I set to roughly the peak amps I want to run, usually a little higher. I was taught to make sure you have some amps to spare at the end of the pedal.

Re: best all around helmet?

Cheap, I would absolutely go with a fixed shade. Hard to break, easy to replace parts, and will always be dark. Plus, when (if) you advance to an auto helmet, you'll be a lot better. I started with an auto and switched to a fixed shade. Weird transition, but I love it now. You can go to your LWS get...
