Re: Welding a Trailer

Yup, when I bought it, it was $89.99 but then I used my rewards card and there was a coupon, and got it for $65! lol that lil' bugger will put out 115A when on 240V, which is enough to use 1/8" 6011s and 1/8" 7018 rods. Plenty for 1/4" steel. I posted my review on Amazon, should be th...

Re: Welding a Trailer

Alright, people! I still have an interest in welding. Looking for a stick welder. :D BUT, I have decided to go with a brand new 4x8 trailer for my project. Thank you for your help! Believe it or not, those cheap little inverter stick welder "lunch boxes" aren't bad at all! I bou...

Same. I prefer the thin 0.040" wheels but regular cut-off wheels that are around 0.045-0.062" still work just fine.

Re: A Complete Newbie...

......... Found out that MIG is the place to start. .......... not really. mig has a lot of variables you need to get right and you need to know what your looking at to be able to get it right (bit of a catch22). one of the dangers is mig can give very nice looking welds that fail. stick is the bes...

Re: Welding a Trailer

Agree completely. There's this guy on YouTube on a channel called Welding Tips and Tricks that makes pretty good videos. Watch every single one of his videos. Buy a stick welder. Buy stick welding electrodes: 6011 and 7018 in 3/32" and 1/8". Wire up for 240V /30A outlet if you don't have o...

HTP has the proper fitting/adapter. Just get the whole kit there.

Re: Minimum viable welding machine for spray

Thanks for the input, guys. I ordered a Millermatic 255. Should be here this week. I expect to mainly use spray and pulse-spray transfer mode but I may try other processes that need other gas ratios. I already have argon for TIG. If I get a bottle of CO2, how hard is it to mix 90/10 using the usual...

Re: cons of spray transfer

OK, I see what you're saying. So the con is that it's impossible if you don't have the right machine. Yeah, there's really no work-around for that. I have a Millermatic 255 coming next week and I've been scrambling to get everything set up. There are so many degrees of freedom that it's difficult t...

Re: TIG welder at work - who gets to use it?

You answered your question in your opening post. You stated there was not a lot of tig work, and that they usually got you to do it. So-limit the use of the Dynasty to yourself. Simple enough. And keep that thing covered when not in use. Those circuit boards don't like dust. Yup. Ask the boss to al...

TD, Miller, Hypertherm, HTP, they all offer pretty good stuff. Always price out consumables, always.

Re: Lincoln Aspect anyone?

I couldn't find the 100% duty cycle for the Dynasty 210 DX listed anywhere, only that at a full 210 amps the duty cycle is 60%. As compared to 60% at 190 amps for the Lincoln Aspect and 35% when maxed out 20 amps higher than the dynasty is capable of. In my person experience if I was running maxed ...

The best ones are thousands of dollars. Get one that that will cut the split-point and you should be good.

I would say the flux is contaminated or otherwise compromised. Either use them or not. Not much you can do short of trying to re-bake them at 700-900°F.

If 3M makes it, use Cubitron-II consumables. You'll be shocked if you're not already using them.

Re: HTP Invertig 221 thermal over-load torture test.

Even all the antidotal evidence in this thread leans towards the actual overload trip being above the manufacturer tested trip point. Actually I would disagree to a certain extent. It is above the "rated point" because of the ambient temperature of my test. A lot of people think the "...
